Andrew’s brow knitted as he stared at her. “What’s gotten into you?” His voice was low and sharp.
But he didn’t argue back.
Amelia’s heart dropped. “Andrew, just tell me the truth. Do you still care about Isabella?”
He let out a slow breath. “Amelia, we’re divorced. I don’t want to say it again.”
If anyone wanted Andrew and Isabella to work things out, besides Isabella herself, it was definitely Amelia. She adored Isabella, and she’d always looked up to Andrew as the most impressive, capable man she knew. In her eyes, the two of them belonged together. On top of that, she couldn’t stand Emily Blair. Back in the day, Emily’s crush on Andrew was practically public knowledge. Amelia had been relieved when Emily was finally out of their lives, and she’d do anything to make sure her brother never ended up with someone like that.
As long as Andrew was with Isabella, Emily wouldn’t stand a chance.
Amelia clenched her jaw. “I don’t buy it. You and Isabella were good together for five years. There’s no way you just stopped caring. And what about Dennis? He’s your son. You’re really going to turn your back on his mother?”
She hesitated, then blurted out, “Did Emily Blair get to you? Is that why you’re acting like this?”
She didn’t even wait for him to reply. She was already convinced.
“It has to be her. Emily was the reason you and Isabella had problems before, and it’s happening again. Andrew, listen to me. Emily is manipulative. She can’t be trusted. She’s the one who pushed Isabella into all this trouble. If it wasn’t for Emily, none of this would have happened.”
Amelia’s voice softened, heavy with frustration and worry. “You’ve loved Isabella for years. She’s Dennis’s mom. Emily can’t even compare. Please, Andrew, don’t let Emily come between you two again. Don’t hurt Isabella because of her.”
