My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 1197

Kevin passing out was the last thing anyone expected.

Amelia rushed over, panic flooding her as she and the butler struggled to keep Kevin upright.

“Grandpa! Grandpa, wake up!”

The butler’s jaw was clenched so tight his temple bulged. “He’s out cold.”

Now both of the most important people in the house were unconscious, and everything at the Lane Estate was spiraling out of control.

Amelia forced herself to breathe, pushing down her fear. She told the butler to get the drivers, fast. Two cars screeched out of the driveway, heading straight to the nearest private hospital with Kevin and Dennis in tow.

She jumped into the car with Dennis, shoving the “suicide note” and the pill bottle deep into her pocket.

Sitting in the passenger seat, Amelia felt frozen. Her breathing was shallow, her heart hammering like crazy. She kept glancing at the clock, counting every minute. Ten had already gone by. The hospital was maybe twenty minutes away at most. If they could just make it in time, Dennis would have a chance.

She wiped her sweaty palms on her jeans, brow furrowed. But then her mind snapped to Kevin.

He’d collapsed from the shock. He was old, with a long list of health issues. Hospital trips were almost routine for him by now. The doctors had always warned that he had to stay calm, avoid anything too stressful.

She never thought Dennis trying to take his own life would hit Kevin this hard. She never imagined he’d just drop like that.

What if the shock was too much? What if he never woke up?

Amelia’s chest tightened. She felt like she couldn’t breathe. She was scared for Dennis, but the guilt and worry for her grandfather were just as crushing. Her thoughts were a mess, tangled and frantic.

She shut her eyes and leaned her head back, desperate for even a second of peace.
