My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 1202

Kevin’s face was tight with anger. “Just look at him. A little thing blows up and now the whole house is in chaos. Threatening to kill himself, making a scene like this… How can a kid like that ever be part of the Lane family?”

His voice filled the hospital room and carried right out the open door. It didn’t take long before Dennis’s loud, broken sobs echoed from the hallway.

Amelia pressed her lips together, frustration showing in her eyes. “Grandpa, maybe you could go a little easier on him. Dennis is already upset.”

Kevin just grunted and turned away, not willing to budge.

Amelia got up and quietly closed the door, then sat down by his bedside. She lowered her voice as if she was trying to calm a storm. “Grandpa, Dennis is only five. He’ll be six next year. He’s just a little kid. His mom’s gone, his dad’s not here… He’s scared. He’s always been the center of attention, so crying and acting out is normal. Please, just try to understand.”

Kevin’s frown deepened. “Did you see what he did? He actually threatened me with suicide. If he keeps this up, people will laugh at us.”

Amelia’s hands tightened on her knees. She took a breath and tried again. “He’s just a child. He doesn’t know how to handle all this. Let’s give him time and talk things through. He’ll get it, eventually. You and Dennis both need to cool off, okay? Yelling at each other won’t solve anything.”

Kevin didn’t answer, just stared at the ceiling.

Amelia watched him for a moment, then quietly asked, “Grandpa, Dennis misses his mom so much. Don’t you want to help Isabella? Not even a little bit?”

Kevin’s eyes snapped open and he glared at her, his tone sharp. “Why should I help Isabella Austin?”

He looked at her like she’d lost her mind. “Dennis is being foolish. Are you planning to join him?”
