Lucas Cox was seething inside, teeth clenched so hard he almost snapped. He wanted nothing more than to explode in rage right there, but he forced himself to swallow it down.
After work that evening, Lucas grabbed his impossibly attractive secretary and headed straight for a bar.
Inside the private lounge, he wrapped an arm around her slim waist, downing drink after drink, his agitation mounting with each glass.
His secretary melted against him, her pale arms draped loosely around his waist. Her voice was low and sultry. “Mr. Cox, are you in a bad mood tonight?”
Lucas wiped his mouth and snorted, “Damn it, that old man Ryan Cox just won’t leave. He’s always hanging around, gets on my nerves just looking at him—the old bastard won’t quit…”
The secretary giggled, planting a sweet kiss on his cheek. “Mr. Cox, let’s not think about him. Let’s just have fun, okay? We finally got a night out—let’s make it count.”
Lucas exhaled sharply, face still tense, then pulled her hard into his arms. He tilted her chin up and bit down, rough and hungry.
She squealed in surprise, but Lucas quickly smothered her protest with a deep kiss.
Just as things were getting heated, a knock sounded at the door.
Tap, tap, tap—
The knocks were soft and unhurried, barely audible over the thrum of the lounge.
Lucas pushed the secretary aside. “Go see who it is.”
She shot him a playful glare. “Mr. Cox, who could it be?”
He just smirked. “You’ve been around me long enough—don’t you know?”
She pouted. “Mr. Cox, I’m right here. Don’t tell me you’re seeing someone else again? Why not just spend the night with me?”
Lucas barely looked at her, brushing his hand against her cheek. “Be good. Go open the door—I’ve got things to take care of.”
With a huff, she got up and went to the door.
When she opened it, her gaze was openly hostile as she sized up the woman standing outside.
