My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 621

Rose Ward didn’t answer.

Emily Blair couldn’t see Rose’s face, but she could guess it wasn’t a pleasant expression.

Emily’s gaze darkened.

Isabella Austin was actually stooping to threaten her with family.

Isabella’s voice might have sounded gentle, but in reality, it was anything but reassuring to those listening.

“Rose, be good. This competition means a lot to me. Prepare the piano piece carefully. Once I get a composition I’m satisfied with, I’ll transfer the money to your account.”

She smiled. “Rose, you know I married Mr. Lane. I’m Mrs. Lane now. If you keep working for me, you’ll never have to worry about money again. Stick with me, and your future will be bright.”

Rose’s reply was barely audible. “Ms. Austin, I just don’t understand. Why don’t you compose the piece yourself? You’re very talented—surely you could write a winning piano piece on your own.”

“That’s not your concern,” Isabella replied smoothly. “Just do as I say, and you’ll get your reward.”

After a long pause, Emily heard Rose’s quiet voice: “All right. I understand…”

Isabella stood and looked down at Rose, her gaze cold and commanding. “Start as soon as you can. The competition is coming up fast, and we don’t have much time.”

“I know…”

With that, Isabella left.

Emily glanced over. Rose remained seated for a long time, head bowed, unmoving. Her face was completely hidden.

Emily turned away.

In her previous life, Emily had known that most of the piano pieces credited to Isabella Austin weren’t her own work, but someone else’s compositions. She just hadn’t known whose.
