My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 647

The moment Ashley Gomez heard from Benjamin that Isabella Austin was her mother, she burst into loud, heart-wrenching sobs, crying so hard that she finally drifted off to sleep in Isabella’s arms, her cheeks still streaked with tears.

When Benjamin tried to lift Ashley from Isabella’s embrace, Ashley clung tightly to Isabella’s sleeve and curled up against her, refusing to let go. “No,” she protested, her voice small but stubborn.

Benjamin crouched beside them, trying his best to soothe her. “Sweetheart, if you’re tired, you should sleep in your bed. Mommy’s arms will get tired if she holds you all night.”

Ashley pouted, clearly reluctant.

Benjamin coaxed her further, “How about this: you go to bed first, and your mom and I will talk for a bit. As soon as we’re done, she’ll come in and sleep with you. Does that sound okay?”

Isabella glanced at Ashley, uncertainty clouding her eyes. She opened her mouth as if to speak, then closed it again, hesitating.

Ashley searched Isabella’s face, trying to gauge her reaction. When Isabella didn’t contradict Benjamin, Ashley finally nodded and reached her arms out to Benjamin. “Alright, but you both have to come in soon.”

Benjamin lifted her gently, his voice soft and reassuring. “Of course.”

After tucking Ashley into bed, Benjamin stepped back into the living room, where Isabella immediately turned to him, her voice trembling. “Benjamin, if we can’t find out who she is, she’ll keep watching us. What am I supposed to do?”

Fear gripped Isabella; her heart raced. “If she keeps following me, she’ll eventually find out about Ashley. What am I supposed to do then?”

“Isabella.” Benjamin crossed the room, reaching out to gently run his thumb along her cheek.

“Do you remember what I told you?” His voice was both cruel and tender. “I don’t care if we’re discovered. I don’t care about the consequences. The only person I truly care about is you. This is something you need to handle yourself.”

Isabella’s eyes widened, disbelief etched across her face. “How can you say that? How can you refuse to help me?”

Benjamin’s expression softened as he changed the subject, sliding his arm around her shoulders and giving her a little squeeze. “Why don’t you stay tonight and keep Ashley company? She’s already so attached to you after just one meeting.”

Staring at the man she once knew so well—and yet now seemed like a stranger—Isabella raised her voice. “No. I never agreed to this. I need to go home. Dennis is waiting for me. Andrew is waiting, too.”

The smile faded from Benjamin’s lips, his gaze darkening. “So, you’ve already forgotten what you promised me today?”

The combined pressure of being discovered and Benjamin’s controlling presence made Isabella’s nerves snap.
