My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 689

She narrowed her eyes and said coldly, “Get out.”

Tristan Davis just chuckled and nodded. “Alright.”

Once Tristan had left, Emily Blair reopened the bottom drawer of her wardrobe, took out her undergarments, and carefully tucked them into the innermost layer of her suitcase.

That evening, after hastily finishing her dinner, Emily grabbed her suitcase and headed out to the conference.

Tristan Davis looked less than pleased, but he still followed her to the event.

Emily left her suitcase in the car and went with Tristan to meet Elizabeth Wilson, as they’d planned.

Since Elizabeth had just gotten back from a business trip, Emily hadn’t seen her in a while. Elizabeth had been out of town for work lately, too busy to even come home when her grandmother fell ill. Emily had given her time off so she could be at the hospital, while Emily herself had been running around the office nonstop—plus there was the whole Matthew Ross situation to deal with—leaving her with no time to meet up with Elizabeth.

So, the only chance they had to catch up was squeezing in a few minutes at the conference.

Elizabeth arrived a few minutes early and was waiting by the entrance. Emily walked up to her. “How long have you been here?”

“Not long, just a few minutes.” Elizabeth nodded to Tristan Davis in greeting. “I thought you weren’t coming back until next month?”

Emily explained on Tristan’s behalf, “He finished work early and came back ahead of schedule.”

Elizabeth raised an eyebrow. “Is that so…”

She tried not to grin as she looked at Tristan. “I knew you wouldn’t be able to stay away.”

Emily glanced between them, puzzled. “Stay away from what?”

She looked to Tristan, who just shrugged.

Elizabeth slipped an arm around Emily’s shoulder. “Nothing—come on, let’s go inside.”

“Emily, by the way, did you know my grandma’s doctor’s student is Alex White?”

Emily replied, “I was just trying to provoke him.”

She filled them in on what had happened at the hospital that day.

Elizabeth listened, stunned. “I always thought Isabella Austin was just manipulative and jealous—I didn’t realize she was actually capable of something so malicious. To think she’d go that far.”

Emily said nothing.

Elizabeth patted her on the shoulder. “Still, don’t get discouraged. If someone like Alex White could be infatuated with Isabella Austin for years, he’s not going to be much help to you. If he were actually a decent guy, he wouldn’t be interested in someone like her, right?”

Emily smiled lightly. “Enough, you don’t have to comfort me. I’m not discouraged.”

“If you have time these days, keep an eye on what’s going on at the police department for me, would you?” she added.

Elizabeth grinned. “Don’t worry. You and me—we’re family. You don’t even have to ask.”
