My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 692

At the far end of the hallway outside the office, a biting wind rushed in, scattering snowflakes across their faces.

Emily Blair wasn’t exactly the type to shy away from the cold, but even she felt a shiver run down her spine. She quickly ducked into the corner by the stairwell for some shelter.

Brandon and Helen Ross, on the other hand, looked absolutely petrified. They stood frozen in the draft, not daring to move, until Emily waved them over. Only then did they approach, their eyes wary and uncertain.

As soon as they got close, Brandon and Helen exchanged a quick glance. Brandon turned to Emily, his voice low and edged with warning. “Who are you? What do you want from us?”

Emily arched an eyebrow, arms folded as she leaned against the wall. “Maybe you’ve heard of Isabella Austin?”

She kept her gaze fixed on them as she spoke, catching the fleeting panic and confusion that flickered in their eyes, despite their attempt to appear calm.

They denied it immediately.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about. I’ve never heard that name before.”

“We don’t know her. You’ve got the wrong people!”

Brandon stepped forward, shielding Helen behind him. He straightened up, trying to muster some authority. “You’re making a mistake. Leave. Right now. The evidence you submitted won’t hold up—stop trying to slander us.”

Emily looked him up and down, a faint smile tugging at her lips. “Brandon Ross… that is your real name, isn’t it?”

Both of them flinched. Brandon’s fists clenched. “You’re mistaken. My name is Peter Clark.”

Helen couldn’t help but interject, stepping forward. “We told you—we’re not who you think. Just leave us—”

Brandon stumbled back, grabbing Helen’s hand. “Who are you? What do you want from us?”

Helen’s composure finally cracked. “What is it you want?”

Emily calmly gathered up her files, tapping the thick stack against her hand. “Let me be clear. What I submitted so far is just a fraction of the evidence I have. If I turn all of this in, there’s no way your fake identities—your whole application to this school—will stay hidden.”

She met their eyes, her voice even. “I’ve dug into your past—kindergarten, grade school, middle school, high school, even college. I have records of it all. I didn’t turn everything over because I wanted to give you a chance. Whether you take it is up to you.”

Shock and fear flashed across their faces, impossible to hide. “Why are you doing this to us? No—how did you even find out? Who told you?”

It was terrifying—almost surreal. Out of nowhere, someone they’d never seen before suddenly appeared, knowing things about their past they thought were buried. It felt like someone had been watching them from the shadows for years—and they had no idea who she was, or what she really wanted.
