My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 693

Emily didn’t answer. “Does it even matter how I found out?”

She let the silence stretch, watching as their expressions shifted through a dozen emotions before they both managed to pull themselves together.

Brandon eyed her warily. “What do you want from us? You didn’t turn in all the evidence, did you? You’re trying to blackmail us into doing something for you.”

Helen gathered her courage and snapped, “We haven’t even seen what you’ve got. Why should we just take your word for it? Don’t think you can trick us.”

Right then, Helen’s phone started to ring.

The sound was abrupt, but all three of them seemed to know, deep down, exactly who was calling.

Helen glanced at the screen, her face paling as she handed the phone to Brandon.

Brandon shot Emily a cautious glance and muttered, “Take it over there.”

Helen nodded tightly, clutching her phone. Emily didn’t try to stop her.

Helen answered, speaking quickly, “Ms. Austin, I need to talk to you.”

Isabella Austin’s voice was just as brisk. “I know what you’re going to say. Someone reported you, didn’t they?”

Helen nodded right away, even though Isabella couldn’t see her. “Yes, she’s here at school right now.”

Isabella nearly swore under her breath, barely restraining herself.

“Is it Emily Blair?”

Helen’s eyes widened. She glanced back to make sure Emily wasn’t eavesdropping before lowering her voice. “Yes, do you know her? She brought a pile of documents and says she’s going to report us. The administration is already looking into it. What should we do?”

Helen hung up, feeling steadier. She put her phone away and walked back to Brandon’s side.

Emily watched as Helen whispered something to Brandon. The panic in their eyes was fading.

Brandon lifted his chin. “You can leave. We’re done here.”

Emily smiled. “So someone’s come to your rescue?”

She didn’t even need to guess. Of course, the person on the other end of Helen’s call was Isabella Austin.

Now that they had Isabella’s reassurance, Brandon and Helen couldn’t be bothered to argue with Emily anymore. They turned to leave without another word.

Emily’s voice stopped them in their tracks.
