My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 750

Before Emily could say a word, Tristan Davis scooted over and set the box of supplements at Andrew Lane’s feet, trying to sound generous as he said, “That’s right, Emily told me herself to give these to a neighbor. Doesn’t matter who gets them, right? Since you’re here, Mr. Lane, you might as well take them. I remember your grandfather’s getting on in years—these could help him stay healthy.”

He made a point of stressing, “Emily told me herself,” and watched Andrew’s reaction, his gaze open and earnest, as if he truly meant to offer the gift.

But everyone in the room knew Tristan was doing this on purpose.

Emily slowly lowered her head.

Andrew didn’t bother looking at Tristan again. His gaze settled on Emily, his voice low: “You’re giving away something I gave you?”

Tristan feigned shock. On anyone else, the look might have seemed fake, but on his handsome face, it just made him seem more charming. “Wait, this was from you, Mr. Lane?”

He put on a little show, stepping over to retrieve the box, his tone full of apology. “Sorry, Mr. Lane. If I’d known these were from you, I—”

“Tristan,” Emily cut him off, sounding drained, “just sit down, will you? Enough.”

Having achieved his goal, Tristan didn’t push it.

He sank onto the edge of Emily’s bed, looking put out. “Alright.”

Emily was already regretting not asking Emma to take the supplements when she left. Why had she left them here for Tristan to use as a prop in his little performance?

Andrew turned to her, his tone a touch colder. “Emily, do you care to explain?”

She took a deep breath, lifted her head, and managed a regretful smile. “Sorry, Tristan misunderstood. The things I meant to give away are from home, not these. Please don’t get the wrong idea.”

He didn’t wait for her reply before he turned and left.

Only after the door clicked shut behind him did Emily finally let out a breath.

She reached over and gave Tristan a light smack on the arm. “Are you out of your mind?”

Tristan had been perfectly quiet while she and Andrew spoke. He knew Andrew was sharp enough to recognize a half-truth when he heard one.

All Tristan wanted was for Andrew to realize that Emily didn’t value his gifts all that much—mission accomplished.

So, no matter how Emily scolded him, he just took it, without a word of protest.
