Benjamin Gomez offered a gentle reassurance. “It’s alright. Even if Andrew Lane finds out, he’ll keep it to himself for your sake.”
Andrew Lane never got the chance to see Emily Blair come out of the ER. Just as he was waiting, his phone rang with an urgent call, forcing him to leave without a moment’s hesitation.
“Mr. Lane, Mrs. Lane’s been in an accident.”
His assistant’s voice was low, laced with both shock and anxiety.
“There’s been a car crash. She’s already at the hospital, and… well…” The assistant hesitated, “Mr. Gomez is the one who brought her in. You should come as soon as you can.”
The hospital where Isabella Austin had been taken was on the far west side of the city, while Emily Blair was clear across town in the east. Driving there would take nearly two hours in city traffic.
“I understand.” Andrew’s voice was quiet. He hung up, shot a glance at Tristan Davis, then turned and strode away without another word.
Tristan watched him go, his brow furrowing. He guessed Andrew had caught wind of something from the police and was rushing off to handle the situation with Isabella.
A lot happened while Emily Blair slept—things she knew nothing about.
The truth finally broke about Isabella Austin bribing a doctor into a false diagnosis. The news was quickly suppressed, but a handful of people in the know couldn’t keep it completely under wraps.
Naturally, Andrew Lane heard about it soon enough.
He found out while he was at the hospital, informed discreetly by the police officers who had come to arrest Isabella.
The officers understood how much a scandal could destroy reputations in their circle, so they kept the matter quiet.
Andrew showed little emotion, his dark eyes fixed on the doors to Isabella’s emergency room.
After the officers finished briefing him, they received no response. Awkwardly, they fell silent.
Andrew just stared back, silent.
Benjamin smiled, a touch of resignation in his voice. “Your reaction is strange, Mr. Lane. Anyone else would be upset. But you—you’re so calm. Do you really think I masterminded all this and pulled Isabella’s strings?”
Andrew neither confirmed nor denied.
Benjamin let out a genuine laugh. “Now I see why I lost to you.”
There was a note of reluctant admiration in his voice. “You’re just like those rabid fans Isabella has online—evidence staring you in the face, and you still think she’s pure as your first love. Honestly, she couldn’t have chosen better than you.”
Realizing he wouldn’t get the answers he wanted from Benjamin, Andrew turned away and pulled out his phone to call his assistant.
After all, Isabella Austin was his wife. With something this serious, the whole city would soon be watching.
