My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 889

Elizabeth leaned in, her tone teasing, "So, are you planning to keep seeing Albert Rivera? He’s got a thing for you, you know. If you keep giving him the time of day, he’ll think you’re interested too. Might even lead him on—he’ll take it as a sign you’re open to him."

Albert’s confession had completely blindsided Emily. Still, even if she wasn’t exactly a pro at handling this sort of thing, she’d been through enough to know what to do.

Climbing into the car alongside Emily, Elizabeth caught the dry reply: "Then I’ll just stop talking to him. Not much else to say."

Elizabeth shrugged. "I doubt he’s going to let you off that easily. Didn’t you hear him just now? He said he was going to pursue you. No way he’s passing up a shot like that."

Emily scrolled through the news on her phone, unfazed. "We’ll cross that bridge when we get there. It’s not a big deal."

Elizabeth pursed her lips, dropping her voice to a conspiratorial whisper. "Don’t be so sure."

If Tristan Davis ever found out about this, Emily’s peaceful life would be over—Tristan had a jealous streak big enough to burn her house down.

Emily’s voice was cool. "Just don’t stir the pot and nothing will change."

Elizabeth’s eyes sparkled with mischief, every bit of her plotting something.

After a moment of silence, Emily remembered the mountain of roses and turned to ask, "What did you do with those flowers, anyway?"

Elizabeth replied, "They were for you, of course. I had them delivered to your place—had a moving company handle it, so don’t worry."

Emily shot her a look. "Next time, don’t pull something that over-the-top. The staff saw everything—how am I supposed to manage them after this?"

Elizabeth pressed her lips together, grinning slyly. "So if the staff aren’t around, I can go wild?"

Emily shut her phone and glared. "What do you think?"

Elizabeth immediately reached over, trying to soothe her. "Alright, alright, I get it. I won’t do it again, promise. Don’t be mad."

Tristan: Who is it, someone from the hospital? That professor?

Tristan: Don’t tell me it’s that gym trainer?

Elizabeth’s grin just grew and grew as she read the flood of messages, her shoulders shaking with laughter.

Emily looked over at the sound, eyes narrowing suspiciously. "What’s so funny?"

Elizabeth’s expression was just too suspicious. Emily had a bad feeling and glanced at Elizabeth’s phone. "What are you looking at?"

She leaned over, trying to get a peek at the screen.

Elizabeth instantly locked her phone and held it out of reach. "Hey, I didn’t say you could look. No peeking."
