“Nervous about meeting your family?”. He frowned.
I nodded. I had so many thoughts and feelings about the whole thing. They were my family but that didn’t mean everything was going to go smoothly. I didn’t know these people and they didn’t know me.
“I guess I’m just a little overwhelmed and I’m afraid it’s going to consume me and put me off”.
“I promise you have nothing to worry about. They love you already and can’t wait to meet you”.
I had to take his word for it because I had nothing else to go on. I had to rip the band-aid off and move forward.
Meeting them wasn’t going to disrupt my life or cause me any pain. Who knows it may be exactly what I need.
Having more family and being surrounded by people who love me was never a bad thing.
“I do want you to visit Leah, and I hope it’s sooner rather than later but I’m not going to push because I want it to be your decision. I don’t want you to feel like you have to do it, and I would never push you to do something you don’t want to do”
“I appreciate that”. I smiled. “And I plan to visit soon”.
We fell into a comfortable silence enjoying each other’s company when I felt the drop on rain against my face. Wiping it away I looked at the sky as the darkness started taken over the clouds.
“I think we’re in for a downpour”. He laughed.
“I think you’re right”. I grabbed my cup and got to my feet. “Are you coming inside?”.
“I think I’ll go for a run and stretch my legs. Do you want to come?”
“No, I’m good I’ve got somethings to catch up on”.
“Okay then I’ll see you in a little while”.
“See you then”. I took myself inside and grabbed a snack from the pantry.
Jake was still out, and I had the rest of the day to sit about and relax until it was time to get ready for dinner. I sat in front of the tv for a good hour before I had to get up and do something.
Sitting about all day was great but not when it’s all I had to do. I was forever filling my day with nothing, and it was starting to take its toll on me.
By the time Jake and my dad arrived home I had reorganised the pantry, cleaned the kitchen and was just about to head upstairs and tackle the main bathroom.
“Bored?”. Jake grinned placing a kiss on my cheek.
“Like what?”. I made a face.
I didn’t realise I had said it like anything.
“I’m going to head up and change. I’ll see you at dinner”. My dad took himself out of the way leaving us alone.
Smart man.
“You sound pissed off”.
“I’m not I’d just really like you to come to dinner”. I shrugged.
“Okay”. He nodded. “I can get someone to cover tonight”.
“No”. I sighed. “This is important, and we can have dinner together tomorrow or whenever. I just feel we haven’t spent much time together recently”
“I said I’ll come to dinner, and we’ll leave it at that. I’m going to shower and lie down for an hour”. He kissed the top of my head before heading upstairs.
