My Luna Became An Alpha After I Rejected Her novel Chapter 49

Chapter 49

It was morning. Cassia had risen before everyone, quietly preparing breakfast for Arthur and Damien.

Kate stumbled into the kitchen, rubbing her eyes, and froze when she saw Cassia at the stove.

“Ma’am, I’m so sorry I overslept!” she blurted, guilt on her face. If James found out she had woken up late, she’d never hear the end of it and she might end up losing her job.

Cassia smiled softly. “It’s fine, Kate. I woke up early anyway. Don’t worry, i’ll leave yours aside once I’m done. You can go back to bed.”

Kate blinked in surprise. Everyone had spoken well of Amelia when she was Luna, how kind she was, how she treated the staff like family.

Now seeing it firsthand, Kate understood. She was the complete opposite of Sofia, who snapped at the maids and dismissed them on a whim.

“Thank you, ma’am. You’re the best,” Kate said sincerely before scurrying back to her room.

Cassia chuckled to herself and kept cooking, until she felt eyes on her. Turning, she found Damien leaning on the kitchen door, staring at her with an expression she couldn’t quite read.

“Damien,” she called, breaking him from his thoughts.

He smiled. “Good morning.”

“How long have you been standing there?”

“Not long. I see you’re up early. Where’s Kate? She should be helping you.”

“I sent her back to bed. I can handle this.”

“Typical you,” Damien muttered with a grin. “Then let me join you.”

Cassia laughed. “You’re welcome to.”

They cooked together, side by side, moving in an easy rhythm until breakfast was done and the table set.

“I’ll go get Arthur,” Damien offered, turning to leave.

Cassia’s smile faltered. Her mind replayed Arthur’s words from last night, his questions about Aiden, his innocent wish that Aiden were his father.

“What’s wrong?” Damien asked, reading her expression.

“It’s Arthur,” Cassia admitted. “I don’t want him seeing Aiden again. They’re bonding without knowing the truth. I can’t let him get attached.”

Damien exhaled slowly. “Then let’s put him in school. It’ll keep him busy, and harder for Aiden to find chances to see him.”

“No,” Cassia said firmly. “Your father needs you more. Arthur and I will be fine.”

“And Aiden?” His voice was hard. “He won’t leave you alone.”

“I know how to handle him. You have to trust me. Please, Damien, go. Your father needs you.”

He searched her eyes, conflicted. Every part of him wanted to stay. But when Cassia took his hands in hers, he knew he couldn’t refuse.

She had that hold over him, whether it was love or something deeper, he couldn’t say. Or maybe it was the fact that she was

his mate.

“Fine,” he said hoarsely. “I’ll go. But I’ll come back as soon as he’s better.”

Cassia’s lips curved into a small smile. “That’s all I ask.”

“I’ll pack after breakfast,” he said, rising to head upstairs.

When he left, Cassia sank into a chair, her smile fading. Damien had been her shield, keeping Aiden at bay since she arrived. Without him, she would have no choice but to face her monster.

And she has to be ready and she was ready.
