Nyla realized something serious was happening and immediately rushed forward to grab the man, only to be shoved aside as well.
Ignoring everything else, she sprinted into the hallway, shouting for help at the top of her lungs. “Help! He’s trying to kill someone!”
Oriana’s air was being squeezed out little by little. She struggled to breathe, her vision starting to blur.
At the critical moment, a swift figure burst in from outside. With a textbook grappling move, the man seized the reporter’s throat and hands, twisting him into a restrained position on the floor.
Bryan’s voice rumbled with anger. “How dare you commit violence in a hospital–you’ve got some nerve!”
The reporter
flailed angrily. “It’s that damn woman interfering!”
Bryan locked his grip around the reporter’s wrist. Pain shot through him, and he yelped, not daring to utter another word.
The pressure on her throat released, and Oriana’s body went limp, collapsing heavily onto the floor.
“Oriana!”
“Dr. Sterling?”
Zachary, following closely behind Bryan, saw Oriana slump down and rushed forward to administer first aid.
Hearing her name, Bryan’s gaze shot to Oriana’s face, panicked. “Zachary, tell me who is she?”
“She’s the Dr. Sterling you’ve been wanting to meet,” Zachary said quickly.
Bryan wanted another look, but with the reporter restrained and Zachary’s team bringing a bed to move Oriana out, he forced down the agitation in his chest.
Bryan had only caught a glimpse of half her face, but there was a faint sense of familiarity.

Oriana opened her eyes. Above her, the familiar white hospital ceiling greeted her.
“Well, look at you–waking up so quickly!”
She turned her head to see Nyla standing at the bedside, grinning broadly.
Oriana frowned slightly. “Am I dreaming?”
Nyla looked puzzled. “Why would you say that?”
“You shouldn’t be smiling at me.”
Nyla nearly rolled her eyes. Seriously? She wasn’t even allowed to smile?
If not for the fact that Oriana had risked her life protecting Kaelyn just moments ago, Nyla would never have tolerated giving her a kind look.
Still, Nyla let the smile fade.
She had no intention of being nice to Oriana.
Seeing her return to normal, Oriana asked, “Where’s Kaelyn?”
“Dr. Rodriguez helped,” Nyla replied. “His father’s comrade was at the hospital for a checkup, so he hid Kaelyn in a special military section. The reporters didn’t dare follow.”
“That’s good. And what about the footage on his camera?”
“Don’t worry. Dr. Rodriguez’s father got the guy arrested and turned over the equipment to the police. He’ll be in custody for a while.”
Nyla’s eyes narrowed, an unspoken feeling stirring in her chest.
“And you’re not even going to ask how you’re doing?”
Oriana thought for a moment. “I should be fine. At least I’m conscious and not dreaming.”
Nyla rolled her eyes.
Was she a human detector now?
She ground her teeth. “Dr. Rodriguez said you were lucky–escaped just in time, nothing serious. Rest on the bed for half an hour, and you’ll be fine.”

“Okay,” Oriana said. Seeing Nyla fuming yet holding back a scolding, she couldn’t help but twitch the corner of her lips.
“You don’t need to stay with me. I’m fine. Go check on Kaelyn.”
“Who’s staying with you? I don’t want to owe you anything!”
