**TITLE: He Returned to Break and Own Me and for His Queen**
**Chapter 44: Oriana’s Whereabouts**
Kirk’s voice resonated with a weight that seemed to hang in the air like a storm cloud ready to burst. “Mr. Holloway, you’re supposed to be Oriana’s guardian. It’s essential that you respect her autonomy, rather than making every choice on her behalf.”
The words rolled off his tongue, deliberate and measured, as he tried to convey the depth of his concern. Grant, on the other hand, felt a heavy sigh escape his lips, a sound laced with frustration and regret. “Oriana may present herself as gentle and easygoing, but beneath that surface lies an unyielding strength and remarkable self-control. If only you would take the time to sit down with her, to converse openly and honestly, perhaps she wouldn’t have felt compelled to conceal her feelings from you and take off for Jindiwood all on her own.”
As Grant listened, a tightening sensation gripped his chest. He opened his mouth, desperate to respond, yet found himself utterly speechless. The gravity of Kirk’s words weighed heavily upon him, sinking him into a sea of darkness and despair.
Each syllable from Kirk seemed to carve into his pride, stripping it away like layers of paint from an old wall, leaving behind only raw shame and an aching wound that throbbed with every heartbeat. He had been so utterly convinced that Oriana would always stand by him, that she would never dream of holding him accountable for his actions. But now, as he reflected on the reality of her departure, he realized he had been living in a self-imposed illusion. She had quietly slipped away from his life, leaving him behind in a world that felt increasingly empty.
In his relentless pursuit of work, he had buried his head deep in tasks, oblivious to the subtle changes in her demeanor. He had noticed fleeting moments, tiny details that hinted at her distress, but he had brushed them aside, assuring himself that he would make it up to her when his schedule allowed. But now, the memory of that fateful morning during the signing ceremony flooded his mind. He recalled overhearing her on the phone, the conversation revealing a truth he had been too blind to see.
She hadn’t been planning a surprise for him; she had been mapping out her escape, ready to leave the very day he had pushed her away. The realization hit him like a physical blow, and his heart felt as if it were being crushed by an unseen force, squeezing the breath from his lungs.
“Grant—”
Alaric’s voice broke through his tumultuous thoughts, but it came out shaky, trembling with an urgency that sent a jolt through Grant. Alaric, clutching Oriana’s application form, began to shake uncontrollably, and instinctively, Grant knew something was amiss. He snatched the papers from Alaric’s grasp, his eyes racing down the page in a frantic search for clarity. Then, they froze, locking onto two words that felt like ice piercing through his veins—
Married.
Alaric’s voice wavered, as if he couldn’t quite grasp the enormity of what he had just read. “Grant, Oriana couldn’t possibly be—”
“No!” Grant’s roar erupted from his throat, raw and primal, a sound fueled by disbelief and despair. His eyes burned with a fierce intensity, veins standing out starkly on the back of his hand as he stormed out, not daring to look back.
“Grant, where are you going?” Alaric called after him, confusion etched on his face.
“Book the next flight! I’m heading to Jindiwood!” Grant shouted, urgency propelling him forward.
“What? Hey—wait, Grant! Wait for me!” Alaric’s voice trailed behind him, but Grant was already lost in his own whirlwind of emotions, leaving Luna standing frozen in the aftermath of their departure. She stared after them, her hands slowly curling into fists, a flicker of hatred igniting in her eyes.
Oriana was unfathomable. To provoke Grant’s possessive nature, she had gone so far as to fabricate a marriage? Luna felt a surge of underestimation; she had misjudged Oriana’s cunning. Unable to confront her opponent directly, Oriana had resorted to deceitful tactics.
But Luna vowed silently to herself that she would never allow Oriana to win.
