**TITLE: He Returned to Break and Own Me and for His Queen**
**Chapter 75: The Legend of William**
As Lily leaned in closer to Oriana, her expression shifted to one of conspiratorial intrigue. She lowered her voice, as if sharing a secret that could change everything. “You know, I’ve come across an interesting rumor. A few years back, Mr. Harris was quite different from the man we see today. Back then, he was considered one of the university’s most dedicated professors, right up there with Mr. Flint. In fact, he might have been even more distinguished because he had a protégé—someone who was said to be exceptionally gifted, a real prodigy…”
Oriana’s brow furrowed in confusion, her mind racing to piece together the fragments of Lily’s story. “But wait, Lily, didn’t you just say that Mr. Harris doesn’t take on any students?”
Lily nodded, her eyes sparkling with the thrill of gossip. “That’s true now. But the tale goes that Mr. Harris held that student in the highest regard. He wanted nothing more than to pass on all his knowledge, to mentor him in every possible way. Then, one day, out of nowhere, the student decided to quit medicine altogether. Just like that. He announced he wouldn’t pursue it any longer.”
Oriana could feel a pang of sympathy for Mr. Harris, a man she barely knew but whose pain was palpable in Lily’s recounting. “That must have devastated him,” she murmured, her heart aching at the thought of such disappointment.
“Heartbroken is an understatement,” Lily continued, her voice dropping even lower, as if afraid the walls might overhear. “After that, he just… disengaged. He never took on another student again.”
Oriana nodded slowly, absorbing the weight of Lily’s words. “So, this is just a rumor, then? A story passed down from seniors?”
“Exactly,” Lily confirmed. “It happened a long time ago, and interestingly, that student wasn’t even from our Jindiwood University Medical College. Mr. Harris went against the norm to take him in from outside. No one ever really got to see the student’s true face, so whether he even existed is still a mystery.”
With a sigh, Oriana glanced down at her application form, a sense of regret washing over her. “Then it seems I should refrain from bothering Mr. Harris after all.”
“What? You’re not even going to ask him?” Lily exclaimed, her eyes wide with disbelief. “We have that group chat, and he’s in it…”
Oriana shook her head, her resolve firm. “Regardless of the truth behind the story, the mere existence of such a rumor—and the fact that Mr. Harris hasn’t chosen to clarify it—suggests he doesn’t want to be disturbed. I can’t be inconsiderate.”
“But without a supervising professor’s recommendation, your MDT application is likely to be rejected!” Lily’s voice trembled with concern for her friend. “That can’t happen! This is a rare opportunity for you. If you want to go, you must at least try! Maybe you could reach out to other departments? See if any professor might be willing to recommend you?”
The old Oriana might have simply allowed herself to be swept along by the currents of others’ decisions, never asserting her own desires.
But now, after a moment’s contemplation, a spark ignited in Oriana’s eyes, transforming uncertainty into determination. “Alright. I’ll give it a shot.”
Meanwhile, despite Luna’s injuries not being fully healed, she was preparing for Cormac’s return from the provincial capital in just a few days. She made it a point to visit the lab every day, determined to impress him.
During lunch, as Leo and James escorted her back from the cafeteria, they stumbled upon Elliot Brooks, a junior student who juggled classes with a part-time gig delivering on-campus orders during breaks.
James, spotting Elliot struggling with an enormous bouquet of roses—so large it seemed it could hardly be managed by one person—strolled over, curiosity piqued.
