**Chapter 86: An Unplanned Discovery**
Oriana’s eyes widened in disbelief, a soft, breathless laugh escaping her lips. “Alright then. I’ll keep my eyes peeled and buy whatever catches my fancy… for you.”
At that moment, a genuine smile broke across his face, illuminating his features. “Good.”
Luna found herself in a predicament, compelled to purchase the items she had hastily taken from Oriana. The suit, though perfectly tailored to Grant’s size, felt tainted in her mind simply because Oriana had touched it. The memory of the previous day lingered in her thoughts—she had spent a considerable amount of her own money replacing the lab’s outdated computer equipment, earning her a wave of praise from her colleagues. If only her bank account hadn’t been so painfully thin, she would have loved to gift Grant a brand new ensemble instead.
This whole mess was the fault of that insufferable country bumpkin, Sloane!
Suppressing her simmering anger while forcing a polite smile, Luna arranged a dinner with Grant under the guise of Sloane’s suggestion. She had intentionally avoided contacting him for days, building up to this very moment. So what if Oriana had a knack for distracting Grant with her charms? He was ambitious, and Luna was determined to prove herself as his greatest asset—something Oriana could never hope to achieve, no matter how hard she tried.
When Luna saw Grant’s weary appearance after just a few days apart, a pang of feigned heartache struck her. Biting her lip delicately, she spoke, her voice trembling with emotion, “Grant, I regret what happened the other day. I knew you weren’t feeling well, yet I let those harsh words slip… I shouldn’t have just walked away and left you like that…”
“But I was so heartbroken that night! I didn’t do anything wrong! I just… I love you too much. I was even willing to step back for you. But Oriana was relentless, and she… she was so cold, not caring about anything! I feel sorry for myself, but I feel even worse for you!”
Tears began to pool in her eyes, and noticing Grant’s conflicted expression and his tight-lipped silence, she cautiously leaned in closer, inching her way until she was almost pressed against him. Finally, as if overwhelmed by her emotions, she gently rested her head on his shoulder, allowing her tears to flow freely.
“Grant, please talk to me. These past few nights, thinking you didn’t want me anymore… it hurt so much here…” As she spoke, Luna took his large hand and placed it against her chest, her heart racing. She pressed his hand down gently, hoping he could feel the depth of her longing. “I’ve been going crazy missing you. Just let me stay by your side. I’ll do anything. Please, Grant, don’t abandon me…”
At last, Grant responded, but his reaction was not what she had hoped for. He pulled his hand away from hers, his expression stiff and unyielding. “I already promised Oriana I would end things with you completely. I can’t go back on my word.”
Luna’s insides churned with a fury that tasted bitter on her tongue. Had he truly lost his mind? Choosing Oriana over her? The very notion was absurd. With a practiced resolve, she took a deep breath, lifting her gaze to meet his, tears welling until they shimmered in her eyes, painting a picture of wounded vulnerability. Her lips trembled, betraying a grief that was too profound for words. “Grant…” she whispered, her voice quavering, “is this… truly your final decision?”
“Yes, it is.” His words were heavy, laden with finality. “I wronged you before. What I owe you, I will repay.”
