Next Man, Better Plan novel Chapter 219

Stephanie gently patted Mark’s head, her voice growing even softer, like a caring older sister. “You shouldn’t play in the dirt next time, okay? Not only is it unhygienic, but if you fall and hurt yourself, Patricia and your father will worry.”

Hearing this, York immediately understood.

A few days ago, he had invited some fellow collectors over, and Mark had mischievously smeared mud all over one of the guest’s clothes.

To apologize, York had gifted the man a porcelain vase.

It seemed the same thing had happened to Stephanie. But while she had let it go, this mother-son duo had decided to play the victim, shifting blame and slandering her.

York recalled the incident with a surge of annoyance. Mark had caused him to lose face in front of his friends!

He turned on Patricia and scolded, “Get a handle on your son! He does nothing but cause trouble! You’re spoiling him rotten!”

Patricia looked aggrieved. “Mark is just a child. He doesn’t know any better.”

His expression darkened. “The child doesn’t know better, but does the adult not know better either? Weren’t you the one who told him to say all those things just now?”

Patricia didn’t dare say another word.

Mrs. Vasquez Sr. took Stephanie’s arm. “Why don’t you go pick out your gift from the collection room now? You can stay for dinner afterward.”

Stephanie nodded.

Leaning against the second-floor railing, a voluptuous woman in her early thirties, dressed in a mermaid-style skirt, watched the scene unfold with a slight smile. It seemed this house was about to get a lot more interesting.

York suddenly asked, “Where’s Cora?”

The woman immediately answered from upstairs. “When did you get back? I didn’t even hear the car.”

York said, “Come to my study. Bring your harp.”

Shortly after, the sound of a harp drifted from the study.

Stephanie could tell that Cora was a highly skilled musician, likely with many years of practice.
