Next Man, Better Plan novel Chapter 223

York subconsciously glanced at Stephanie.

She was looking at him with wide, innocent, doe-like eyes, appearing completely harmless and docile.

York quickly looked away, refusing to meet her gaze again.

He glared at Jonathan, his face grim. “Speak! Have you gone mute?”

Jonathan finally leaned back in his chair and spoke with a casual air, “I gave them to her. It’s no big deal. It’s just a few shares. Can’t I give a gift to my own wife?”

Stephanie curled her fingers. Oh, for crying out loud! Just end me now! she thought.

It was clear to her now that Jonathan had no intention of getting along with York peacefully.

Both men were stubborn as mules, neither willing to back down.

She had spent all this time trying to be charming and obedient, finally managing to evoke a sliver of fatherly affection from York, who had even sent for the family doctor to tend to Jonathan.

And now, with a single sentence, Jonathan had undone all of it!

Sure enough, a vein throbbed on York’s temple, his aura becoming intensely oppressive.

“What did you say? As the heir to the Vasquez family, you disregard an entire company and give away all your shares just to make a woman smile? Not even the most foolish kings in history were as extravagant as you!”

Jonathan looked utterly unconcerned, clearly not taking York’s words to heart.

Seeing his complete lack of remorse, York grew even angrier.

Mrs. Vasquez Sr. quickly tried to smooth things over. “Jonathan, you should have at least given the family a heads-up about something this major.”

Jonathan let out a low chuckle. “If I had, would I have been able to give them away?”

York choked out, “You…”

He looked around, searching for something to use as a weapon.

No one, except Mrs. Vasquez Sr., stepped forward to stop him. “York, calm down! Your grandson's wife is right here! Have some consideration for Jonathan’s dignity!”
