"You can stay, if you want," York said, his expression complex. "But I have to explain Ethan's identity to my wife. I can't let her continue to misunderstand us like this."
Ann stumbled backward.
"You'll tell your wife that Ethan isn't our child," she sobbed. "And then what?"
Her voice rose with agitation. "Then your wife will tell everyone that six years ago, Ann James failed to marry into a rich family and was forced abroad! That I was abused for six years, raped, had a child, and then after my husband died, I came back shamelessly to make you take responsibility?"
Ann pressed on. "And then your family will find out he's not your biological son, and they'll 'deal with' me and my child just like they 'dealt with' me six years ago?!"
Her voice broke. "If that's what's going to happen, you might as well just kill me!"
Before York could respond, Ann fled from the living room, sobbing.
She had schemed for six years to finally get back to York's side. There was no way she would leave.
That evening, at York's new residence.
It was a spacious apartment in the Blue Bay Estates.
York was on the 9th floor, Peter on the 13th.
Peter toured York's new home, taking in every detail. "Even if you decorate this place exactly like your marital home and hang up the wedding photos, Claudia won't give a damn."
York ignored Peter's mockery, neatly arranging the two sets of toiletries he'd bought in the bathroom.
Leaning against the doorframe, Peter said, "York, no woman is going to tolerate her husband having a child with his ex-girlfriend and keeping them around. If you want to make things right with Claudia, you have to tell her the truth."
