Claudia glanced at York, then tried to pull her hand away and leave.

Claudia laughed, a bitter, angry sound. "The wife and the mistress making peace? York, do you even hear yourself?"

They stared at each other. York was silent for a moment.

Then he said, "You are my wife. Ann is in my past. I've seen the security footage from tonight, and I have a witness. I didn't wrongly accuse Eddy."

Claudia held back her emotions, her gaze growing colder.

He had questioned the witness later. He had watched the footage later.

When he first entered the room, he had ignored her and her brother to rush to Ann's side, listening only to Ann's side of the story.

Seeing her silence, York tried to explain. "I'm responsible for Eddy's injury. I didn't control my strength. But none of this has anything to do with Ann. Don't take your anger out on her."

Her eyes were moist. "With you protecting her like this, would I dare?"

Their eyes met, and York faltered.

He looked down, changing the subject. "How is Eddy's hand? I'll come with you to see him."

York's attitude wounded Claudia once again.
