Claudia tried to convince her parents to move into the city, but they refused.

With as much composure as she could muster, Claudia told her mother, "The Fergusons are the top family here, Mom. York is the heir. He is good-looking. He is a brilliant earner. He is ruthless. He has influence. He gives me the title and the luxury. What more could a woman ask for?"

Her calm words were laced with an unspoken sorrow that broke Jessica's heart. Their daughter had finally surrendered, and as her parents, they had no choice but to accept it.

Around noon, Claudia went out to buy lunch. On her way back to the hospital room, she unexpectedly ran into Ann James and her son in the hallway.

She hadn't seen Ann in a while and could tell at a glance that she'd had some subtle work done on her face, though her overall features were the same. Ann was wearing a light down coat, dressed head to toe in designer brands, and her posture and demeanor were clearly trained. It was obvious she had been putting in a lot of effort behind the scenes.

Seeing that Claudia was alone, Ann smiled faintly. "Mrs. Ferguson, long time no see."

She greeted Claudia with the warmth of an old friend.
