No Divorce? The Billionaire's Love Chase! novel Chapter 208

Ann's eyes welled up with tears. "York, it's just a name. Do you really have to be so serious about it?"

"It's just a name," York confirmed, his face impassive. "So let's change it."

A flash of resentment crossed Ann's eyes. "But York, if we act too distant, I'm afraid your grandfather will get suspicious!"

York lowered his gaze, hiding the emotion in his eyes.

Seeing his silence, Ann quickly added, "York, really, a name means nothing to me. I've made a point of keeping my distance from you to spare your wife any unnecessary… discomfort. I know my place. I'm not one for grand schemes or delusions."

"Tonight was my mistake," Ann promised. "I swear that in the future, at any event like this, I will stay far away from you both. I'll pretend I don't even know you. Isn't that enough?"

York hesitated briefly before nodding. "In public, address me as Mr. Ferguson from now on."

Watching York stride away, Ann collapsed onto the sofa, feeling completely drained.

He had claimed the child only to make up for the sacrifices she had made for him over the past six years.

In private, he would help her, but he always refused to cross the line.

And now, he was even bothered by what she called him.

She had been so careful, always treading lightly so he wouldn't discover her true feelings.

But recently, he had grown more and more distant. Every time they met, he was either cold or distracted.

She would meticulously plan their meetings, only for him to want to leave after a few minutes.

She could clearly feel that compared to when she first returned, York was growing increasingly impatient with her.

He couldn't let go of Claudia. He wanted to save their marriage, and he wanted to get rid of her.

Her gaze fell on a newly opened pack of cigarettes and a lighter on the coffee table, and a cunning glint appeared in her eyes.
