Obedience No More He's the One I Deserved novel Chapter 253

Perhaps unable to find the right words, the woman's lips twitched, but she said nothing.

Micah leaned back lazily in his chair with an innocent smile.

"Roxanne, have you never seen a security uniform before?"

Roxanne made a sound of acknowledgment, waiting for him to explain.

"I had nothing better to do anyway, so I figured I'd come work alongside Ethan. What do you think? Pretty fitting job for me, right?"

Watching him deliberately trying to look cool, Roxanne couldn't help but laugh. "Well, I wouldn't say fitting, but starting from the bottom is definitely the right move. Keep at it."

Micah waved his hand. "Thanks for the encouragement."

"I'm going to head upstairs and surprise Ethan. I'll catch up with you later."

Roxanne blinked, then put her aloof demeanor back on and headed upstairs surrounded by her entourage.

Micah watched the numbers jumping above the elevator, then pulled a pen from the drawer and spun it idly, his expression thoughtful.

...

Upstairs, Tony was waiting respectfully at the elevator.

The moment the doors opened, he immediately put on a standard business smile. "Hello, Ms. West. We've been expecting you."

Normally they should have gone downstairs to greet her, but Roxanne had called ahead saying she didn't like too much fanfare and asked them to just wait upstairs.

She removed her sunglasses and handed them off to a bodyguard beside her.

Her face showed no expression, radiating the commanding presence of a powerful businesswoman.

"Where is Mr. Jackson?"

"Mr. Jackson is still in a video conference with your company's executives. He'll come to receive you the moment the meeting ends. We ask for your patience."

Roxanne didn't say anything for a moment, then a gleam suddenly flashed in her eyes as she turned. "Take me to his office."

"Uh ... "

Tony furrowed his brow, caught off guard by this request.

The boss wasn't even there. What would she do in his office?

This was going to be awkward.

Seeing his expression, Roxanne's voice turned cold and hard. "What, you think I'm going to steal your company secrets?

"I just don't like other noise when I'm resting. If you're worried, we can leave the office door open."

Since she'd put it that way, refusing seemed inappropriate.

Tony thought for two seconds, then nodded. "Of course not, Ms. West. Right this way."

After escorting her to the office, he hurried to the conference room. Several of Jackson Group's executives were still inside. His gaze swept the room before he quickly walked over to Ethan and whispered a few words in his ear.

Ethan's eyes darkened, and the fingers he'd been tapping suddenly stopped.

Roxanne sat on the couch. From behind, all he could see was the elegant sweep of her neck below her upswept hair, her diamond earrings catching the light with a dazzling sparkle.

He casually slid both hands into his pants pockets and stopped walking.

What's this woman playing at?

Roxanne had heard footsteps behind her earlier, but they had stopped. Her grip on the coffee cup grew tight, and she finally couldn't resist standing up first.

She turned with a smile. "Hey! It's me!"

A flicker of surprise passed through Ethan's eyes before his expression shifted back to normal.

"You?" His sharp gaze assessed the woman before him. He walked over and sat down opposite her, crossing his legs. "How come I didn't know you were Stonewarden Group's representative?"

This company was different from ordinary corporations. Though massive in scale and involved in multiple industries, their employee evaluations were extremely strict, even more so than for their partners.

Roxanne ...

Clearly wasn't the type to meet their standards.

Roxanne's expression showed a hint of discomfort. She took a sip of coffee before saying softly, "Stonewarden Group's chairman is my adoptive father."

Ethan was stunned. He remained silent.

"But that's not the point."

Roxanne's mood recovered quickly. She leaned forward, bracing herself on her hands. "It's been so long since we've seen each other. Aren't you excited to see me? I've been looking forward to this for ages!"
