"It's not like I need you bringing me food anyway."
He muttered to himself for a while. He even thought of throwing it straight in the trash. He lifted it up, then put it down. He muttered, "Whatever. Ethan makes me eat at the cafeteria anyway. It can't be worse than cafeteria food, right?"
Dawn didn't know about his internal struggle. After going upstairs, she headed straight to Ethan's office.
Two project managers were just coming out and greeted her respectfully. "Ms. Porter."
She smiled politely and waited until they left before going in.
Ethan stood on the other side of his desk, watching as Dawn walked closer step by step with her hands behind her back.
"Hey." Dawn saw he wasn't moving, so she smiled and waved her hand in front of him. "I came to bring you lunch. Are you so touched you can't even speak?"
He held her hand, his voice amused. "I'm surprised. Why didn't you tell me ahead of time?"
"If I told you ahead of time, where's the fun in that?"
Dawn raised the lunch box in her hand. "Look, it's all your favorites."
"Are you sure about that?"
"Oh right, my favorites." Dawn couldn't help but laugh, letting him take the lunch box and lead her by the hand to the coffee table.
Ethan opened each dish one by one, his voice deep and pleasant. "But that's not wrong. We like pretty much the same foods."
"Really?"
Dawn's eyes instantly lit up.
"Then how about I bring you lunch every day? I'm not that busy with work lately anyway, so it's perfect ... " She thought about making up for his disappointment over missing their honeymoon.
Seeing that she trailed off, Ethan made a questioning sound. "Perfect for what?"
"Perfect for keeping an eye on you to make sure you're not fooling around with other women."
Dawn puffed out her cheeks. "I can be really fierce, you know. If I catch you getting too friendly with anyone else, just wait and see what I'll do to you!"
Ethan couldn't help but chuckle. "What are you talking about?"
"Who knows with you."
Dawn picked up her fork and popped a chunk of pulled pork into her mouth. Her cheeks puffed out on both sides, making her face round and full. "Everyone says you can't trust any man. You've been good so far, but who knows if it's all an act."
Her words were getting more and more outrageous, and Ethan sighed helplessly.
"Mm."
He said, "Then I'll have to trouble you to keep a close watch. I'll gladly accept it."
Dawn looked up at him and smiled without saying a word.
After finishing lunch, Ethan was going to walk her back, but Tony came to notify him that an international conference call was starting, so he could only walk her to the elevator.
"It's fine. I'm not a child."
Dawn saw his expression wasn't great. She glanced left and right, and after confirming no one was around, stood on tiptoes and kissed him.
"I drove myself here. I'll come again tomorrow."
He ate it, but now he was being picky about it?
Putting the lunch box back in the bag, her gaze swept over Micah as she asked, "Your back injury ... Is it okay?"
Bringing this up immediately annoyed Micah. He pulled his legs down from the chair. "Well? Do I look like I'm dying? Tch. Just go already. Don't keep me from doing my job!"
Dawn was stunned.
Oh wow. So fierce.
Fine. I'll leave then.
As her graceful figure disappeared from view, Micah withdrew his gaze. Besides impatience, there was something else in his eyes that was impossible to read.
Before he could sit back down in his chair, two cars suddenly pulled up outside.
The first to get out were bodyguards in suits.
The back door of the Mercedes opened, and a fair-skinned woman with long legs stepped out wearing ivory pointed-toe heels. She put on her sunglasses with one hand, and the aura of a wealthy heiress radiated from her.
The impressive entourage made quite a spectacle.
When Micah got a clear look at the woman's face, he chuckled with interest.
She really came!
Interesting!
In those few seconds, the woman also saw him.
Her face was full of surprise. She even pushed her sunglasses down in disbelief. "Micah? Oh my God! It's really you. What are you doing here? And dressed like ... this?"
