Obedience No More He's the One I Deserved novel Chapter 260

Tony shivered and said with an awkward smile, "The boss isn't here yet. If Ms. West needs something, just tell me directly."

"I'm bringing him gifts." Roxanne acted like she couldn't sense anything wrong and held up the shopping bags. "Look, I bought all these for him. He always used to say I never bought him gifts, so today I'm making up for it all at once."

Tony was speechless.

He snuck a glance at the boss's wife and resignedly closed his eyes.

Great. Now not only was he done for, the boss was probably done for too.

In reality, Dawn showed no reaction. Her gaze lowered, and she was surprised at how calm she could be.

A flicker passed through Roxanne's eyes. She turned around. "Since he's not here yet, I'll go wait in his office."

"No need."

A cool voice rang out. The three people with their various thoughts looked up.

The man wore a black trench coat, his long legs wrapped in casual pants. His steady stride carried natural authority. His eyes swept over each person before settling on Dawn's face.

He swallowed hard.

Just as he was about to speak, Roxanne shifted to position herself right between them.

"You're here? I bought all these for you. Go try them on and see if you like them."

Her eyes curved with her smile. Anyone watching would think she and the man in front of her had quite the relationship. Even if they weren't lovers, they were definitely involved.

Ethan's gaze turned ice cold. He scoffed. "Are you delusional?"

Those simple words brought the atmosphere at the office entrance down to freezing.

Tony didn't dare to breathe, trying to minimize his presence.

A flash of surprise crossed Dawn's face, but she didn't speak either.

Only Roxanne remained.

Her expression didn't change at all. Even with her hand still held up in midair, she didn't feel embarrassed. Her smile was even brighter than before. "You're right. I did dream about you last night, so I couldn't wait to come find you today. Aren't you touched?"

Ethan narrowed his eyes, looking at her like she was crazy.

"Roxanne."

He spoke her name heavily, enunciating each word. "I have a wife. I don't care what you're scheming, but you better knock it off. If you dare to try anything, just see what'll happen."

With that, his sharp gaze locked with hers for two seconds.

He turned and took Dawn's hand, striding away.

Roxanne stood rooted to the spot, unmoving.

Tony looked left and right. The boss and his wife had both left, and no one else was around. He couldn't just leave her standing there.

He grimaced, then plastered on a smile and stepped forward, taking the bags from Roxanne's hand still held in midair.

"Ms. West, um ... your arm must be getting tired, haha.

"This is my fault. I didn't make it clear earlier that our boss is already married. So it's a misunderstanding, you know? The boss's wife is probably confused too, haha."

Well, duh.

That's his wife.

Damn!

What did she mean by "they'll split up eventually"?

Was this woman planning to pull something?

Just as he was about to say something, Roxanne was already leaving in her heels, abandoning the various gift boxes scattered on the floor.

Tony sighed deeply. "The boss's romantic baggage always ends up on my shoulders."

...

"Achoo!"

A sneeze broke the silence in the car.

Since leaving Jackson Group and getting on the highway, neither had spoken.

Dawn couldn't help but laugh a little. "Don't tell me the crisis was so urgent you didn't even have time to put on proper clothes?"

Ethan breathed a sigh of relief.

Thank God. She was still willing to talk to him.

His tone carried a hint of grievance. "It has nothing to do with this crisis."

"Then what does it have to do with?"

"I was afraid you'd get bullied."

The slow, gentle words hung in the air. Dawn suddenly didn't know what to say.

It seemed that in everyone's eyes, this was her image—young, inexperienced. Which meant she'd be at a disadvantage, be targeted.

Maybe Roxanne had seen through this too, which is why she wanted to stage this whole show. The goal was just to see her humiliated.
