Chapter 47

At that time, I cried uncontrollably, blaming the mother for her cruelty. What could have driven her to choose to jump with her daughter?

Yet the daughter trusted her mother completely, willing to follow her even to death.

At this moment, with no parents to rely on, I only had Leland-my husband-who had taken care of me since I was ten, and we depended on each other.

Yet he betrayed me.

For some reason, that despair made me feel lost, sad, and heartbroken.

While I was staying in the hotel, I didn’t visit any clients that afternoon. Instead, I fell into a dazed sleep.

I was so exhausted that I could fall asleep even sitting up.

Denise felt very worried for me.

It wasn’t until I opened my eyes that I realized it was already 9 PM.

I had dinner with them. Johan even brought his son, who was a boxing coach, which made me feel more secure and helped me sleep soundly that afternoon.

Knowing they were staying next door, Denise and I felt much more at ease.

After dinner, Denise and I went back to our hotel room.

I turned on the surveillance and saw Leland sitting on the sofa, working on documents. For some reason, my heart ached for him.

What was wrong with me?

I clearly hated his betrayal, yet I felt sorry for his hard work.

It was almost 10 PM. I threw my phone on the bed and went to take a shower.

Denise leaned closer.

“Don’t worry. Mr. Pearson is at your house. I don’t think he would bring his new lover to your home. He probably isn’t that much of an asshole.”

I gave a bitter smile and said, “If that’s really the case, press the record button for me. I want to keep this video as evidence of his betrayal for the future. I don’t want him to think I’m just throwing a tantrum if I ever leave.”

Seeing Denise’s awkward expression, I turned and went into the bathroom.

At that moment, I vaguely heard Denise calling me, “Kay, you were right. That bitch actually went to your house, and she’s even dressed as a maid! Oh my goodness, that’s so shocking.”

I didn’t hear her clearly, but as I soaked in the bath, I felt a restless annoyance.

Denise was staring, wide-eyed.

She was probably shocked by what she saw on the surveillance footage.

On the screen, Leland grabbed Caitlyn’s chin and angrily pushed her away.

“Caitlyn, I’m telling you, you’re just a plaything to me. How dare you come to my house? Who do you think you are?”

Caitlyn fell to the floor and quickly got up.”Mr. Pearson, you’ve really misunderstood me. I didn’t put a bug on you, I swear. I came here today to explain. You were so angry when you left last night, and I was really scared.”
