Chapter 73
Leland’s eyes were bloodshot, suggesting he had cried intensely, just like when I learned he had a mistress.
But he didn’t admit that his sadness, although it was clearly visible on his face.
I felt a sharp pain in my heart, even though he didn’t know we were already divorced.
If he knew he had signed the divorce agreement and understood its content, he wouldn’t push me this way.
I had already planned the division of assets, including the company and this villa, which I wouldn’t fight him for; I was willing to give them up.
Yet here he was, questioning me harshly as if I couldn’t even keep what was rightfully mine.
What was the point?
I sneered coldly, mixed with a hint of grievance and confusion, “But you said you would always love me. On our wedding day, you promised I only needed to be a happy little princess and that you would love and protect me forever. Do you still remember that?”
I saw Leland manage a faint smile, then look at me coldly. Surprisingly, I saw two emotions in his gaze: disdain and sorrow.

Back then, I was just entertaining you. After taking care of you for over a decade, even if I didn’t see you as my wife, I might as well treat you like a pet. Even a pet develops feelings. Besides, if I didn’t pretend to love you that way, how could your grandparents trust me and hand over the entire Perez family’s fortune for me to manage?”
Rage boiled up inside me, and I gritted my teeth to keep from losing it.”I can’t believe I didn’t see through your tricks sooner. You had me fooled, thinking I was the happiest woman alive, but all along you were just treating me like your pet.”
Wiping away my tears, I looked at him and said, “Leland, after three years of marriage, I never thought you’d be this cruel to me. I just lost our baby because of you, and you can’t even bother to give me a single word of comfort.”
His hands were trembling uncontrollably, as if he was under some sort of stress, and the muscles on his face were stiff as if he was enduring intense
pain.
I watched him like this, suspecting his wound had reopened. Without thinking, I lifted the covers. “Leland, is it because you’re injured that you’re acting so irrationally?”
But he kicked me hard, his eyes burning with fury.”Get the hell out of my face, Kaylie. I’ve made it clear before. If you want, you can take back what’s yours from me by yourself. If not, suck it up. Even if I F**K another woman right in front of you, you better just deal with it!”
