**Chapter 100**
Every interaction with Renee sent Adam spiraling into a whirlwind of uncontrolled emotions.
“No way in hell would I ever marry that wicked harpy!” he erupted, his voice echoing in the sterile confines of the hospital room.
In the recesses of his mind, Kayla had always been a proud little princess, wrapped in the trappings of her own entitlement. He had thought her merely headstrong, a little spoiled perhaps, but who could have foreseen that beneath that seemingly innocent façade lay a heart as cold and ruthless as ice, capable of inflicting unimaginable pain?
The thought of Renee enduring any form of assault at the Nurture Children’s Welfare Center that day was unbearable. If that news were to leak across the internet, it would be a humiliation from which she might never recover. Though she projected an image of strength, Adam knew all too well the fragile nature that lay beneath.
Irene, standing by, felt an overwhelming urge to offer him comfort, but she hesitated, weighing her words carefully.
“Listen, Adam,” she said, her tone steady yet firm. “Whether you like it or not, you need to get divorced. Your grandfather insists on it. You must think this through thoroughly. Oh, and by the way, Renee has already asked me for a billion dollars as part of the divorce settlement. If you two go through with this, don’t you dare give her another penny.”
At that moment, Irene’s eyes sparked with a new idea. “You know, Renee might be desperate to end things with you right now. If necessary, leverage her shares in Ascend Group to negotiate. If she’s willing to relinquish part of those shares, you should sign the papers without hesitation.”
Adam felt irritation flare within him. The cold, calculating nature of his mother’s suggestions made his skin crawl.
He rubbed his temples, a gesture of frustration. “Maybe you should just leave,” he muttered, the weariness of the situation weighing heavily on him.
“I’m trying to help you!” Irene’s voice cracked with hurt. “When will you ever see my side?”
“See your side?” Adam shot up from his chair, his eyes blazing with anger. “How am I supposed to understand you? You signed the divorce papers without even telling me! You knew Renee had signed without my knowledge, and you kept it from me!”
His outburst ignited Irene’s fury.
“You’re blaming me for your divorce? You’re the one who was reckless, and now you’re trying to shift your mess onto me? You ungrateful child!” she yelled, her voice laced with betrayal.
With that, she unleashed a torrent of anger, storming out of the hospital room and slamming the door behind her, leaving a deafening silence in her wake.
