**Across the Fallen Golden Kingdom Distant Fires by Damon S. Creed**
**Chapter 7**
In a quiet neighborhood on the far side of town, Camila felt as though she were trapped in a storm of nausea and despair. The past few days had been a relentless cycle of vomiting and anxiety, each wave threatening to drown her in worry.
After a brief examination at the clinic, the doctor’s words rang in her ears like a sweet melody—she was indeed pregnant. A surge of joy coursed through her veins, igniting a spark of hope she thought had been extinguished. With a heart full of excitement, she rushed to share the news with Chase.
When she revealed the news, his face lit up with uncontainable delight, his eyes sparkling with the promise of a new beginning. Together, they made their way to the OB appointment, hand in hand, stepping into a future that seemed bright and full of potential.
Yet, as they exited the hospital, a shadow crept over Camila’s expression, darkening the joyous moment. She hesitated, her heart heavy with memories. “Every time I think about that guy trying to rape me that day, I get so scared,” she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper. “He didn’t actually touch me, but it felt just as terrifying… how could Nora be so heartless?”
Chase’s demeanor shifted instantly, his features hardening at the mention of Nora’s name. “Why bring her up and ruin a perfectly good day?” he replied, irritation flaring in his voice.
Camila noticed the flicker of disgust that crossed his face and felt a surge of satisfaction. It was a small victory, but it was enough to embolden her. She took a deep breath, summoning her courage. “Didn’t you promise me that whatever Nora did to me, you’d pay her back a hundredfold?”
“Chase, she tried to have me raped. Don’t you think it’s time she got a taste of her own medicine?” Her words hung in the air, heavy with the weight of their implications.
Chase fell silent for a moment, his brow furrowing as he considered her words. Finally, he muttered, “That might be a bit much…”
Tears welled up in Camila’s eyes, and she instinctively placed a hand on her belly. “I just want our baby to have justice… If you hadn’t shown up when you did, that man would’ve ruined me… I’m so scared, Chase…”
The sight of her tears pierced through his tough exterior, and his resolve began to soften once more. “Alright. I’ll handle it,” he said, a newfound determination in his voice.
In an instant, Camila’s expression transformed, her face lighting up with pure joy. She threw her arms around him, feeling safe in his embrace. “You’re the best, Chase…”
“I won’t let anything happen to you. You’re carrying my son now,” he reassured her, kissing her gently on the forehead, his affection wrapping around her like a warm blanket.
That night, however, a different kind of darkness loomed over Nora as she was dragged out of the Cold Storage Vault. Disoriented and groggy, she blinked against the harsh light, her heart racing. “Where are you taking me?” she asked, her voice trembling with fear.
Silence enveloped her as no one answered. It wasn’t until a pair of filthy hands seized her that she jolted awake, her heart pounding in her chest. Before her stood a group of leering, greasy bald men, their eyes glinting with malice.
