The school forum was still buzzing about Lydia. Her name was everywhere, and pretty soon every major university near Capital Med School knew about her. These days, the forum wasn’t just full of Capital Med students. People from other schools were dropping by to join the drama too.
At lunch, Juna messaged Lydia. [Don't tell me you’ve actually fallen for that instructor of yours?]
Juna was no stranger to attractive guys in the Capital, but even she had to admit, Jay was on another level. Tall, handsome, and with just the right amount of charisma, he was the kind of guy girls couldn’t help but crush on.
Lydia sent back an eyerolling emoji.
Juna replied, clearly confused. [What’s that supposed to mean? Don’t go letting yourself get blinded by a pretty face. Sure, Connor’s a bit older, but he’s got plenty of good qualities.]
Lydia stared at Juna’s message and just felt more annoyed. She typed back, [It’s not like that.]
The school forum was a mess, packed with all sorts of nasty posts about her. The haters were everywhere and it was pretty obvious someone was stirring the pot behind the scenes. Lydia figured she’d let them jump around for a while. When the time was right, she’d handle them all at once.
Juna finally seemed relieved. [See, I knew it. Has your old man come back yet? Isn’t he worried you might actually leave him?]
Just thinking about that made Lydia’s lips curl into a tiny smile. Connor’s business trip had been a nightmare for him. He couldn’t eat, couldn’t sleep, and every day he was tortured by the latest forum gossip. If she hadn’t been there to calm him down, he probably would have come running back a long time ago.
She replied, [Tomorrow night.]
Connor was supposed to get back to the Capital around ten tomorrow evening, but Lydia had to start off-campus training with the new freshmen first thing in the morning. Rumor had it they were headed to an abandoned military base out in the wilderness, right at the foot of a mountain.
She had just gotten back to her dorm for a quick rest when her phone rang. It was Ethan calling. Lydia figured he wanted to ask about the new winter line. She’d been so swamped lately that she hadn’t even finished the sketches.
As soon as she answered, Ethan’s anxious voice came through. “Lydia, some old guy showed up at the company claiming he’s your relative. He’s demanding to borrow two million. I had security throw him out, but he won’t leave. He’s sprawled on the ground outside, yelling his head off.”
