Ethan nodded, ended the call, and stepped outside.
Frank was sprawled out right in front of the building, sweat pouring down his face under the blazing sun. But for two million, that was nothing. Frank had been through way worse just to survive. If all he had to do was bake in the sun to get paid, he’d show up every day, no questions asked.
When Ethan walked out, Frank grunted, “So, you done checking in? If you are, hand over the money. I’ve got places to be.”
He was ready for this. No way he’d leave empty-handed.
Ethan crouched down to meet his eyes. “Our boss says you should go find your own daughter.”
Frank shot him a menacing look. “She’s living with my real daughter now. Coming to her is the same as coming to my daughter!”
Ethan laughed. “So you’re just going to play games and hope we cave?”
Frank flashed a grin, showing off his yellow teeth. He just knew Ethan wouldn’t actually touch him. “I don’t know hwat you are talking about. Your boss has companies everywhere. Two million is pocket change. I need the money now. She can’t lend me two million?”
“Why not just go to your own daughter instead of bothering our boss? Are you out of your mind? Keep this up and I’ll call the cops,” Ethan snapped, his patience gone. It was obvious Frank was just trying to pull a fast one.
Frank didn’t even flinch at the word “police.” He’d dealt with the cops too many times to care. Besides, he hadn’t really done anything. What could they do to him?
“I don’t care. If your boss won’t pay up, I’ll just lie here and ruin your business.”
Ethan pulled out his phone, dialing for the police, then paused. He looked down at Frank. “Who told you to come here?”
Frank let out a couple of snorts. “None of your business.”
