Ariana had remained silent all this while, her gaze fixed on Georgia as she berated Kiara. Watching her mother's usually gentle and soft features twist into something unrecognizable—as if finally revealing her true self.
A cold chuckle escaped Ariana's lips, her eyes glinting with icy disdain. "So, forcing me to divorce my husband, leaving my four children—especially this unborn one in my womb—to grow up without a complete family… That’s what you call 'for my own good'?"
Her frigid stare seemed to freeze the air in the room, tension coiling to its breaking point.
Georgia met that mocking, frosty gaze and felt a flicker of guilt and unease. But after a brief hesitation, she pressed her lips together and pressed on with her rehearsed speech. "The Stone family won’t mistreat your children. As for the one in your belly… Honestly, I’ve been thinking about it too. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have asked if you wanted to terminate the pregnancy."
Her words were hesitant, her expression the picture of a mother agonizing over her daughter’s well-being.
Yet no mother who truly cared for her child would ever advise her pregnant daughter to divorce and abort—unless something catastrophic had happened.
But clearly, no such catastrophe had befallen Ariana.
For Georgia to suggest such a thing was nothing short of absurd.
What gave her the right to say any of this?
When her daughter remained silent, Georgia clenched her jaw and pressed further. "I’m only thinking of you, Ariana. You know I am. If it weren’t absolutely necessary, why would I ever suggest ending the pregnancy?"
Ariana’s voice was glacial. "Then enlighten me. What exactly is so 'necessary'?"
Georgia faltered.
Ariana’s stare remained unyielding, devoid of warmth.
After a pause, Georgia sighed. "...Kiara is here, so I didn’t want to be too blunt. But Ariana, since Lambert has feelings for someone else, staying in this marriage won’t bring you happiness. I know how it feels—true happiness only comes from marrying a man who loves you. If you can’t bear to part with the baby, of course, you can keep it. But I want you to divorce. I don’t care about the alliance between our families. As long as you’re happy, that’s all that matters to me."
Ariana: "..."
Kiara's fingers paused mid-air. She was about to speak, but after glancing at Georgia, she hesitated and ultimately pressed her lips together. Her eyes brimmed with silent concern as she gazed at Ariana, terrified that her elder sister might actually be swayed by their aunt's words.
As an outsider, she saw everything clearly. Ariana's husband obviously adored her. There was no domestic violence, no emotional neglect, let alone infidelity. Even if there were misunderstandings, nothing justified such drastic measures as divorce when no major wrongdoing had occurred.
She couldn't help suspecting—someone with a grudge against Ariana must have poisoned Aunt's mind, manipulating her into pushing for this separation. How vicious!
The thought simmered quietly in Kiara's mind. Though she kept distracting herself with other thoughts, the aunt's words had already seeped into her heart like poison. To put it simply, it hurt. It hurt deeply, leaving her chilled to the bone, as if someone had doused her with ice water under the scorching summer sun.
Without another word, she turned on her heel and strode toward the villa’s entrance.
It was only then that Georgia snapped out of her daze.
Her face flushed with anger, then paled again. Just as Ariana reached the door, she called out, "Ari… Fine, pretend I never said anything today. But mark my words—everything I did was for your own good. If you refuse to understand a mother’s heart, then I won’t bother speaking of it again."
Ariana paused—but she didn’t turn back. A mocking smile curled at her lips before she pushed the door open and walked out without another glance.
Georgia watched her leave, ignored and dismissed, her expression darkening with fury.
Kiara remained silent.
She studied her aunt—now a stranger in her eyes—and after a moment, decided to head upstairs.
'Maybe… I should come back less often from now on.'
Georgia turned and saw Kiara retreating without so much as a word. Her face twisted further in displeasure. "Kiara, where are your manners?" she snapped. "Are you going to follow Ariana’s example? I only wanted what’s best for you both, but your attitudes… they truly break my heart."
