448 A Question of a Lifetime
Third–Person POV
ist as Aubrey was feeling puzzled, Alpha Mateo turned his head slightly to look at the other side of the road.
Aubrey followed his gaze. At the end of the road, Alpha Henry was leaning against a silver–gray motorcycle. The last rays of the setting sun enveloped him, stretching his already slender figure even longer. He glanced over sideways, his deep features not as ostentatious as usual, but tinged with a bit of loneliness, as if he had been waiting for a long time.
Seeing him, Aubrey was stunned at first, then inexplicably felt a little guilty.
Alpha Mateo didn’t speak either. It was Henry who walked over first, draping a coat over her and smoothly pulling her out of Mateo’s embrace.
While Alpha Henry helped her gather the coat around her, he said, “Mom is cooking dinner herself tonight, just waiting for me to bring you home. Shall we go now?”
His single sentence left Mateo with nothing to say. Henry’s every word implied a family connection. What was he showing off?
Aubrey looked at Alpha Henry, then turned back to Mateo. “Then, I’ll be going.”
She thought for a moment, then added, “Thank you for taking me out to clear my head. I had a lot of fun today.”
Only then did Mateo’s expression ease slightly. His hand tightened, then relaxed. After a long pause, he said in a muffled voice, “Mm. We’ll meet again when we get the chance.”
Aubrey nodded, and truly left without looking back.
Mateo watched them from behind for a long time. He only snapped back to his senses when Aubrey sat on the back seat and waved goodbye to him.
Really, what was he getting worked up about?
He had heard that psychologist named Craig say that in Aubrey’s situation, no matter how many times you tell her “I like you,” to her it’s just like “I want to treat you to dinner.” She might feel awkward, but only for a moment. It wasn’t an awkwardness that would stir her soul.
For Alpha Henry to have reached this step, besides having taken root in her heart long ago, wasn’t it also a reward obtained through chance, after several life–and–death situations and spending a great deal of time and effort?

There was nothing to be jealous of
Thinking this. Alpha Mateo got on his bike and left. This time, however, he didn’t wear a helmet, instead letting the cold wind hit his face, sharp as a knife.
Alpha Henry and Matco went in completely opposite directions. He drove at a slow speed,
hich made Aubrey, who had expected Henry to fly, feel a bit strange. He didn’t seem like the
paced type.
y aren’t you going faster?”
Hearing her ask, Alpha Henry’s muffled voice came from the helmet, somewhat intermittently.
“…I want you to hold me longer.”
Aubrey was suddenly speechless. The motorcycle drove along the mountain road. Because the speed wasn’t fast, Aubrey could clearly see the beautiful scenery of the sunset. The negative emotions in her heart gradually dissipated, and she felt her body and mind lighten.
After returning to the Miguel family, before she even stepped inside, Alpha Henry was pulled away by Beta Cam, who said there was an important matter the alpha needed to handle.
Aubrey didn’t go in immediately, but just stood at the door, watching Alpha Henry’s departing back.
After an unknown amount of time, she heard a sigh beside her. Turning her head, she saw the teasing look in Adelyn’s eyes.
“Haven’t seen enough? He’s been gone for a while.”
Aubrey’s face reddened. “No, I was just spacing out.”
“Ohh-” Adelyn dragged out the sound, but then asked, “Then let me ask you, Aubrey, do you want to spend a lifetime with Henry?”
A lifetime?
A lifetime was really too long. Aubrey was only thirty when she died in her last life, yet it felt like she had lived several lifetimes, one that seemed to have no end.
Seeing Aubrey in a daze, Adelyn rephrased, “Then let me put it another way. If you had to choose one person to grow old with, who would you choose?”
