Reborn to Marry My Best Friend's Uncle novel Chapter 124

Cecilia was quietly enjoying Sean's careful attention as she lay on the hospital bed. Her eyes instinctively drifted to the doorway, and her face went completely pale.

"Ah!"

She looked as if she had seen something terrifying. Her eyes widened, and her whole body flinched backward in panic.

She didn't look like someone facing a rival. She looked like someone who had suddenly been confronted by her deepest fear.

Sean was startled by her sudden and violent reaction.

He put down the bowl of soup in his hands and followed her line of sight toward the door.

Annie stood in the doorway, her expression cold and unreadable.

Sean's brows pulled together.

It was Annie again.

Sean turned and gently patted Cecilia's back. "Cecilia, don't be scared. I'm right here. It's fine."

Cecilia seemed not to hear him at all. Her fingers dug into his arm as she pointed toward the doorway, her voice shaking. "It's her... It's her..."

Sean held her hand to calm her. When he faced the door again, his expression had gone dark. "Annie, what are you doing here now?"

The display of affection in the room struck Annie as nothing but bitterly ironic. She didn't answer him. Instead, she gave the pair inside one last cold look, then turned to leave.

Sean stared at her decisive back. Against his better judgment, his feet moved on their own. He said, "Cecilia, wait for me. I'll be right back."

He went after Annie and caught up with her at the end of the hallway.

Annie stopped and slowly turned around.

Before Sean could get a single word out, she stepped forward, closing the distance between them. Her eyes were like ice, cutting straight through him.

"Sean, it honestly never occurred to me that the two of you could be this vicious," she said quietly. "You couldn't even spare an innocent child."

Maeve had been dragged into this for no reason, and her baby had almost been lost because of it.
