Reborn to Marry My Best Friend's Uncle novel Chapter 24

Annie stopped right in front of Sean and fixed him with an icy glare. Then, she went straight to the point and questioned, "Why did you revoke my slot?"

Sean slipped his phone into his pocket and stood upright, a faint smirk tugging at his lips. "Mosaic Studio belongs to the Frost family."

The implication was clear that he called the shots here.

"It's just a contest slot. Since Cecilia wants it, I'll give it to her. Do I need a reason for that?"

His shameless, entitled attitude now was identical to the attitude he had in her past life, when he'd forced her to donate her bone marrow.

A bitter, incredulous laugh slipped out of Annie. "You really haven't changed in ten years, Sean. You're still as despicable as ever."

The smile on Sean's face faded, and his gaze darkened. He took a step closer and lowered his head so his eyes locked on hers. "You went through all the trouble to enter the studio and made such a fuss. Wasn't it all just to get my attention?"

To Sean, everything Annie did was just a calculated game of trying to get his attention. Her intense reaction, even confronting him over a mere contest slot, proved that she still cared.

It seemed Helena's claim that Annie was seeing another man was nonsense. Annie's heart was clearly still his.

At that, Annie briefly froze before a wave of nausea washed over her. How narcissistic could a man get to create such delusions?

She withdrew her gaze, refused to look at him another second, and turned to leave.

Sean frowned in displeasure, assuming she was just committed to keeping up the act. Well, he would see how long she could keep up the pretense!

Night fell.

Christian was stuck in an important meeting in the office, so Annie returned home alone. The moment she stepped inside, she threw herself onto the soft couch and refused to move an inch.

This was the scene that Christian walked in on when he opened the door. The living room was lit only by a dim floor lamp, while Annie was curled up on the couch.

He softened his steps, walked over, and sat beside her, resting his warm, large hand on her forehead. "Are you not feeling well?"

His familiar presence and warmth seemed to ease her tense nerves. She shook her head and replied in a muffled voice, "It's nothing."

Christian withdrew his hand and gently stroked his thumb across her cheek. "What happened?"

Under his concerned gaze, Annie finally sighed and recounted the day's events down to every detail.

"...So I'll just have to find another way," she finished with another sigh. "The contest has strict rules. Entries must be submitted through a company, and no personal submissions are allowed.

"I'll resign tomorrow. Maybe I can still get accepted somewhere else in time."

Though there was a slim chance, she wasn't ready to give up just like that.

As Christian quietly listened, a cold glint flashed in his deep eyes. He didn't say much and simply ruffled her hair. "Don't worry. There's always a way."

Annie nodded and dragged herself off the couch. "I'll sort out the materials I prepared for the contest."
