After glancing at the message, Christian placed his phone aside instead of responding.
He lowered his head, a faint smile tugging at his lips. He'd been waiting for this day for far too long.
Early the next morning, Sean walked out of his office with a stormy look on his face.
His superior, Brandon Gates, was right behind him, still trying to advise him.
"Sean, it's not that we don't believe you, but the public pressure right now is just too much for us. The hospital really can't step in and clear things up for you.
"For now, just take some time off. Go home, rest, and try to reach an understanding with Ms. Steward. If possible, get her to clarify things on your behalf."
Sean stopped in his tracks, a deep frown creasing his forehead.
"I'm being suspended? What about my patients? Cecilia's condition is unstable. She needs constant monitoring."
Brandon's tone hardened as he patted Sean on the shoulder. "A different doctor will be assigned to her. Right now, your priority should be handling your personal issues. Stop dragging the hospital into this mess!"
Even if Sean hated this outcome, he had no choice but to accept it. He clenched his fists so hard his knuckles turned white.
All of this was Annie's fault. She ruined his reputation, and now she was affecting his job. What exactly was she trying to do?
The more Sean thought about it, the more irritated he became.
He pulled out his phone and called her.
The ringing tone went on for what felt like forever before the call was answered.
Annie woke to her phone blaring beside her. Still half-asleep, she blindly felt for her phone and picked up without even looking.
"Hello? Who is this?"
"It's Sean."
Hearing the familiar voice, Annie instantly regretted not checking who was calling before answering.
Terrific. Just her luck.
She yawned. "Dr. Frost, why are you calling?"
Her question made Sean's anger flare up even more. He was up all night stressing over the mess she had caused, while she slept soundly.
Holding back his anger, he ordered coldly, "Annie Steward, you need to put out a statement right now. Tell everyone we ended our engagement long before that video came out."
Annie let out an incredulous, angry chuckle at his audacity. She sat up in bed, fully awake now, her tone instantly frosty.
"And why exactly should I help clear your name? Aren't you incredibly capable, Dr. Frost? Weren't you able to get me wrapped around your finger before? What, you can't even handle something this insignificant now? If you've got issues, deal with them. Don't bother me with them."
