**He Knows the Door to My Soul and Who Forgot to Novel 78**

Cool fingers swept back my hair, gently tucking it behind my ears, creating a small sanctuary for me as I doubled over once more, my body wracked with waves of nausea. The sensation was relentless, and I could feel the warmth of a palm rubbing soothing circles on my back, a quiet gesture of comfort amidst the turmoil.

As the initial wave of sickness subsided, I collapsed against the porcelain toilet, utterly drained. My mouth felt like a bitter battleground, and every fiber of my being ached as though I had been struck down by a freight train, leaving me a mere shadow of myself.

“Why are you helping me?” I managed to croak out, my voice barely a whisper against the backdrop of my suffering.

Andrei remained silent, his focus unwavering as he dampened a washcloth and pressed it gently against my forehead. The coolness of the fabric was a welcome relief against my fevered skin, a momentary balm for my distress.

Yet, just as I began to hope for respite, another wave of nausea crashed over me, and I lurched forward once more. Andrei stayed by my side, his grip steady as he held my hair back, his presence a silent promise that I was not alone in this moment of vulnerability.

“Why are you helping me?” I repeated, desperation creeping into my voice as I gasped between heaves.

Once again, he offered no reply, his silence hanging heavily in the air.

Time seemed to stretch infinitely, and finally, after what felt like an eternity, the worst of the sickness began to recede. I leaned back, trembling and weak, as Andrei flushed the toilet and then returned to my side, wiping my face with a fresh cloth.

“Drink this,” he instructed, pressing a small vial to my lips. “It’ll help flush the drugs out of your system.”

I was too weary to protest, my body craving relief more than answers. The liquid was bitter on my tongue, but I swallowed it down, willing myself to trust him.

“Why are you helping me?” I asked for a third time, my gaze searching his face through tear-streaked lashes. Despite everything, I noticed a flicker of genuine concern etched across his features, an unexpected softness from a man who had once seemed intent on my destruction.

“Can you stand?” he countered, avoiding my question altogether.

I attempted to push myself up, but my legs felt like they were made of flimsy rope, ready to snap under the slightest pressure. Andrei was quick to react, catching me before I could tumble and lifting me effortlessly into his arms.

“Where are you taking me?” I inquired, a mix of curiosity and apprehension threading through my voice.
