The brothers exchanged a look. For a long moment, the air was tense, silent. I resisted the urge to roll my eyes. Today, of all days, they had to participate in Alpha male posturing? I expected as much from Andrei, but I had hoped Damon would act with a little more maturity considering the night we’d both had.
But then again, I supposed they were still brothers at the end of the day. The apple never falls far from
the tree.
“Fine,” Damon finally said. “We’ll settle this the old–fashioned way.”
Andrei smirked. “And I’ll beat you, just like I always did when we were kids.”
Damon’s lip curled, revealing partially extended fangs. I sighed and pinched the bridge of my nose, shaking my head. Males and their fucking pride. But at least they were finally agreeing on something.
We all headed to the sparring ring behind the barracks. It was a simple dirt circle surrounded by wooden posts, but it served its purpose. The warriors of Ashmoor trained there daily, and Damon often joined them to keep his skills sharp.
Alina, the female warrior, fell into step beside me as we walked. I glanced at her from the corner of my eye, taking in her imposing figure. She was taller than me by at least half a foot, her blonde hair completely buzzed to the scalp on one side with swirling designs tattooed into the skin. The other side was long, with multiple braids and silver rings woven throughout.
That, combined with the eye patch over her left eye, gave her a fierce appearance. Even more so with the jagged scar cutting across her brow.
“Luna Natalia,” she said quietly.
I tensed. “Yes?”
“Mila says hi.”
My steps faltered. “Mila?”
Alina nodded, her one visible eye fixed straight ahead. “She personally insisted that I be sent here with my brothers.”
A small smile tugged at my lips despite myself. After our tearful reunion at Moonshadow, I wasn’t sure where Mila and I stood. The fact that she’d specifically requested Alina be sent here could only mean one thing: she trusted Alina.
And if Mila trusted her, then maybe I could, too.
“How is she?” I asked, keeping my voice low.
“She’s well. Still Delta, still running us all ragged with her ceaseless training.” Alina’s lips quirked up slightly. “She talks about you sometimes. Been talking about you a lot more lately, though. She also
