Rejected by my Husband novel Chapter 9

Karline’s POV (After One Month)

It had been a month since that night. A month since my world shattered in the VIP room of that club.

Reid hadn’t touched me since. He barely looked at me, barely spoke, like I was a ghost haunting his house. The silence between us was worse than shouting—cold, sharp, unending.

But tonight, I had to tell him.

My hands trembled as I clutched the test results in my purse. My heart pounded so hard it hurt. I found him in his study, the glow of his laptop screen lighting his tired face. He looked up when I entered, his eyes wary, guarded.

“Reid,” I whispered, my throat dry.

He closed his laptop slowly, waiting. Not speaking.

I forced myself to breathe, my fingers knotting together in front of me. “I… I need to tell you something. Something important.”

His brow furrowed. “What is it?”

I swallowed hard, my chest tight. Then the words slipped out, trembling but true.

“I...I'm pregnant.”

For a moment, silence. Then his eyes widened, shock flashing across his face. His expression softened, just a little—the first crack in his armor in weeks. I saw something there, something I hadn’t seen since before the accusations.

Hope.

He always wanted children. I knew that. He’d told me once, on a quiet night in our first year of marriage, that his dream was to hold a child of his own blood. To build a family together.

And for a second, just one fleeting second, I thought maybe… maybe this would save us.

“Pregnant…” he repeated under his breath, his voice low, almost reverent. His gaze flickered to my stomach, then back to my eyes.

Tears welled in mine. “Yes. Our baby, Reid. Yours and mine.”

But then… the softness vanished.

His jaw tightened. His face closed off, hard again. He stood abruptly, running a hand through his hair, his steps restless as if the walls were closing in on him.

“Reid?” I called softly, my voice cracking.

He didn’t answer. Didn’t look at me. He grabbed his coat from the chair, his movements sharp, and walked past me.

“Reid!” I cried, spinning toward him. “Please, don’t walk away. Say something...anything!”

But he opened the door without a word, without even glancing back.

And just like that, he was gone.

I sank to the floor, clutching my stomach, sobbing until my throat burned. I thought the baby would bring us back together. But instead… it only reminded me how far apart we’d fallen.

***

The next morning, I woke up clutching my stomach, my fingers trembling against the small swell that wasn’t visible yet but already felt like the most important thing in my world. I turned my head toward the other side of the bed.
