The air inside the room shifted from panicked and fearful to a rather determined and purposeful one. Everyone started organising themselves. Dominic stepped close to Inez as if trying to find some comfort in her presence alone, but he seemed to have learnt his lesson because he didn’t try to push himself any closer after Tracy was done with him.
"I will try to arrange a place for the survivors to stay...if they are still alive," said Dominic in a low and controlled voice. He was eyeing Tracy with a hint of trepidation in his gaze as if he was worried that she would turn him into a toad or a rat. "But we need to hurry...that witch...the one responsible for this chaos; maybe she will return."
"She won’t." The cotton-candy-haired woman replied. She made a dismissive gesture with her hand. "Her vessel is destroyed for the time being. It will take her a little while to recover from this damage. So she will not return so soon."
"How long?"
"Months... maybe weeks if she tries to push it."
Veronica turned to look at the woman with a shocked and terrified expression. "Months? You actually killed her vessel?"
Tracy shrugged one of her shoulders. "What other choice did I have? She was proving difficult and was not listening to a thing that I was telling her. I don’t like it when people don’t listen to me."
"I see." though the girl tried to show a brave facade, she looked more scared than brave with the smile on her face.
Tracy then turned to look at Dominic, who too seemed scared a little bit. "Now let’s go, big boy. We have a bunch of things to do before they head down to the south."
Dominic pursed his lips; his eyes shot to Inez, who turned her head away. Sighing, he turned around and walked out but before leaving, he turned and said to her, "This isn’t over."
"Oh, it is over," Tracy corrected him as she pulled him out of the room by his collar. "It got over the very day you doubted her for something she fucking didn’t do."
Killian watched the two of them leave; his eyebrows were slightly lifted. Inez played with her fingers on her lap while trying to ease the unease in her chest.
"What does she mean by she destroyed the vessel of the witch? What vessel?" Finn asked. Hearing his question, Inez also leaned forward because she too wanted to know the answer to this. "What kind of witch is she? That she needs a vessel? I have never heard of them before ... is that witch dangerous?"
"They are really dangerous—really challenging. I have heard of them, and they are not nice because they are tricky enough to hide their real vessel which holds their real soul essence," explained Veronica. When everyone turned to look at her, she sighed and continued, "These witches split their souls into pieces and use the bodies of others to hide each piece. Since their soul is latched onto another soul, even if you destroy the vessel, their soul remains unharmed, and the one that receives the impact is the soul of their vessel."
"So that piece of soul escapes unharmed?" Inez asked, horrified.
Veronica smiled grimly. "Thats the entire point, isn’t it?"
