Claudia gave him an innocent look. “Next time, blame the guys who started it, okay? It’s not like I wanted to run into a psycho.”
Sterling’s eyes darkened with malice as he thought of those men at the bar.
How dare they try to make Claudia drink with them? Were they trying to get themselves killed?
His fingers twitched, wanting to reach through the screen and touch her injuries.
“Alright,” he said, his voice low and steady, almost coaxing. “Okay then, how about I stand up for my wife?”
His voice was low, with a hint of teasing. In the quiet of the night, it made her blush for no
reason.
She quickly covered her phone camera so he wouldn’t see her blushing. “Sterling, stop saying nonsense,” she scolded softly, her tone sweet like she was teasing.
He smirked. “Just letting you get a taste of what it’s like to be Mrs. Romero.”
When he noticed her leaning her injured arm against the couch, he reminded her gently, “Don’t touch the wound. Take care of it before you rest.”
“Okay, fine,” she answered. “I’ll take a shower and put on some medicine.”
“No need. I already called a doctor.”
Claudia blinked. “That’s not necessary. It’s not that bad. I’ll wrap it up myself. By the time the doctor comes, I’ll be half–asleep.”
Sterling glanced at something off–screen, typing quickly, then looked back at her through the
camera.
“She’s already there. Open the door.”
Claudia blinked, surprised. He must have called the doctor while she was still at the bar.
Claudia opened the door in surprise and found a kind–looking woman standing there.
“Good evening, Ms. Lancaster. I’m Ingrid Camden,” the doctor introduced herself.
Claudia had expected David, the doctor who had come before.
Her emotion was a little complicated as she let Ingrid inside.

Ingrid was professional. She cleaned and wrapped the cut on Claudia’s arm and checked the bruises on her body. Before leaving, handed her a small kit of medicine and scar cream. She even wrote clear instructions on sticky notes and placed them where Claudia could easily sec.
The whole time, Sterling stayed on the video call, watching every step like a supervisor.
In her 28 years, Claudia had suffered all kinds of injuries. Even when Wilson had beaten her so badly she landed in the hospital, she had never been cared for with such patience and
seriousness.
She couldn’t deny–it felt good.
Claudia muttered into the phone, “Sterling, you’re spoiling me.”
Sterling chuckled. “If that’s all it takes to win you over, I’ve got it easy.”
As Ingrid packed up the medical kit, she heard the man’s voice through the phone. It was surprisingly gentle. Her arm gave the slightest shake, and she quickly sped up her work.
When Ingrid said goodbye, Claudia spoke up. “Dr. Camden, why don’t you stay here tonight? It’s late, and it might not be safe for you to head home alone.”
She felt a little guilty. Ingrid had come all the way over in the middle of the night, still wearing her lounge clothes, just to help her.
Ingrid looked at Claudia in surprise. She hadn’t expected the woman Mr. Romero cared about to be so kind.
In all her years as a private doctor, she had seen plenty of arrogant rich people.
They didn’t care if it was dark or raining outside–staff were just staff.
Smiling, Ingrid shook her head. “That’s all right. Mr. Romero already arranged a driver.”
Claudia walked her to the elevator.
When the doors closed, the hawking gaze of Sterling from the video call was gone too. Ingrid finally let out a long breath.
Good lord, I’m freaking stressed under Mr. Romero’s watch while I work.
Thankfully, Ms. Lancaster wasn’t a spoiled brat, or I might’ve been crushed a hundred times over by his sharp gaze.
Still, she remembered catching a glimpse of his face on the screen earlier after treating Claudia’s wound. The cold shadow that flickered across it made her shiver. Ingrid shook her
