Chapter 90 Happy Birthday, Claudia!
“Eat these first.”
Then he asked, “Do you like the fireworks?”
Claudia suddenly thought of something and looked up in surprise. “You prepared them?”
She had assumed they were arranged by the Lancasters to celebrate the engagement.

No wonder the fireworks tonight were so grand and dazzling. They were on par with the extravagant fireworks shows of major cities. They had been going on since Sterling walked in and still hadn’t stopped.
Sterling raised a brow. “Of course. A birthday deserves a proper celebration. Whatever others have, you deserve it just as much.”
As he finished, the sky burst into another pattern.
“Happy Birthday, Claudia” appeared in giant glowing letters, surrounded by a bloom of colorful flowers that lit up the night.
Ever since the soaked fireworks incident when she was six, no birthday fireworks had ever been set off for her again.
For years, the little girl she used to be could only hide in the shadows, watching Lydia’s happiness and feeling guilty for being jealous.
She had thought of herself as a sinner, and she didn’t deserve such joy.
But now that radiant light poured into her eyes, reflecting stars within them.
She smiled through glistening eyes, lips curving softly as she said with all seriousness, “Thank you.”
After so many years, she finally felt what it was like to be treated with care again.
From the moment the two of them began whispering to each other as if no one else existed, the venue had gone eerily silent. Now, when the words in the sky appeared, a wave of gasps spread through the crowd.
It was only then that everyone suddenly realized that the true star of tonight was supposed to be Claudia, the birthday girl.
But from the moment she walked in, aside from a few polite words in Wilson’s welcome speech, the entire banquet had given her nothing.

Even the cake, which should have been cut by the birthday star, had been pushed to after the engagement announcement. Wilson had planned for her and Jasper to cut it together.
But since the bride–to–be had been swapped out at the last minute and Lydia still hadn’t shown up, the cake now sat forgotten in some corner of the kitchen.
And looking at the expressions of the Lancasters, it was obvious these fireworks were not prepared by them.
The crowd couldn’t help sighing in unison.
Of course, some of it might have been an attempt to flatter Sterling.
Still, the way he had just tended to Claudia–whether out of genuine feeling or something else -had shocked everyone and made his stance clear.
For now, Claudia was under his protection. Even he was treating her like royalty, and anyone thinking of making a move on her had better think twice.
Everyone understood what it meant to swap the bride at the last minute.
Some pitied Claudia for being betrayed by both her sister and her fiancé. Some mocked her for not being able to keep her own man. Some noticed how the Lancasters neglected her. And some were eager to get close because of her looks…
And some thought Claudia could never let go of someone as outstanding as Jasper, waiting badly for a fight between her and Lydia.
But now, whatever thoughts they had were crushed.
It wasn’t that Jasper was unimpressive, but compared to Sterling, the gap was impossible to
cross.
Sterling had never been on the same level as his peers.
Sterling had long been the real power behind the Romeros, running their overseas businesses smoothly and building a reputation full of dark legends. Even their parents and grandparents could only bow down and seek cooperation when facing him.
And if Claudia had Sterling wrapped so tightly around her finger, how could she possibly still want Jasper?
People quietly reassessed Claudia’s position in their minds.

Some stared blankly at the two at the table–one standing, one sitting–and at Jasper, whose eyes were red and face completely dazed.
Some even let their imagination run wild, thinking that maybe it was Sterling who was interested in Claudia, and that was why the Lancasters made a last–minute switch. Just one glance at Jasper made it clear he was still hung up on old feelings.
