Chapter 85
Tito knocked once and entered and nodded at Torq
“What is going on?” Before Tito could even speak she was interrupting.
Torq shrugged, “there was a possibility he would reach out to you. The company owns your phone, and we simply expanded your security settings on the phone to track the incoming calls. I presume we secured Mercurio’s location based on his call” At Tito’s nod, Tory shrugged. “We will have someone watching him now to make sure he isn’t going to double cross you.”
“You bugged my phone?”
“No. We simply expanded the measures already in place in the phone.”
“Semantics, Torq. Nobody has ever checked my phone out before.” She bristled at the invasion of privacy, “you should have let me know you were in my phone. Are you reading my texts and my messages on my apps?”
He waved Tito back out of the room, “Alcee why are you angry”
J“An infringement on my privacy.”
“It’s a company phone.”
“I was given two phones Torq. One I use at work and this one. This one Tyrell allocated me for my personal use because he knew my father’s family would try to get into my personal phone and track my whereabouts. He told me when he gave me two phones, one was for work, and one was for my personal life. I don’t bring my work one out of the workplace.”
“Alcee, I’m not tracking your whereabouts. We amped up the security in your phone in the event of several situations. The first is your family contacting you and causing mayhem or trying to pressure you to do things you don’t want.”
“Are you kidding me? You think I would let them control me?”
“No. I think they are a family divided, frantic and panicking and they will try to do the most unthinkable to push their agenda. They want to survive. If they think they can coerce you, they will.”
“The second?”
“The tracking allows us to pinpoint your location and if someone takes you and you have your phone with you, we can find you. My concern was and remains if your brothers or father try to take you in a vehicle or put you back in their home, then if your phone is on you, I can track you.”
“Come on Torq, the first thing they’d do is ditch my phone.”
“True but they might slip up. If they simply turn it off or toss it onto a counter, it’s a tracking device.”
“There’s more.”
“There is.” He rubbed his chin but didn’t look away from the accusation in her eyes, “I’m concerned about not being able to find you, Alcee.”
“You should have talked to me, Tory. You should have said to me, hey, in case your brother reaches out, we’re tapping your phone.” When he didn’t answer she got off his lap the realization of his silence making her need space between them, “you don’t trust me. You think they’d call me, and I wouldn’t tell you or report it or I’d hide something.”
“No. Not because I don’t trust you Alcee. I do trust you. I trust you completely,”
“I’m not feeling the trust right now, Tong.”
“Alcer, if your father called you and said they took
Antero and that you need to go to him without telling me anything and they could prove
to
you they had him, what would you do?”
She looked away angrily.
“Alcee, what would you do if someone took your son and said if you didn’t do exactly as they said, he would die?”
