Chapter 1021
“As for Jamie’s assault on Sharon…” Richard continued, his tone darkening. “Such violence will not be tolerated. I’ll have the butler call the police and submit all the evidence. The authorities will handle it according to the law. ”
The words sounded righteous, but everyone present knew the truth. In Marcentine, the police would never truly punish someone like Jamie. At best, he’d be taken in one moment and released the next.
Still, Sharon’s goal had already been achieved.
A live broadcast could only go so far, but it was enough. Neither the Kalen family nor Sharon could resort to private justice before a global audience. Any misstep, and the world would seize on it as evidence against them.
As promised, the butler soon contacted the police.
Richard didn’t mention ending the livestream again; instead, he used the remaining minutes to salvage what was left of his public image.
If Richard could swallow his pride, Rick had little choice but to follow. He knew this was no time to care about appearances. Handled poorly, the scandal would not only tarnish the Kalen family’s name but also shake the company’s stock. What began as a “family affair” could easily spiral into an industry-wide crisis.
Only Silas and Scott sat silent, faces cold and drawn.
Victoria looked as though she wanted to speak, but ultimately held her tongue.
When the police arrived, they took Jamie away. He didn’t resist. He didn’t say a word.
Before leaving, Johanna cast one long, unreadable look at Thomas before quietly following her brother out.
Once they were gone, Sharon finally ended the livestream.
Even then, no one in the Kalen family dared to relax. Who knew whether she had another device recording, or had kept the stream running in secret?
With Jamie out of the picture, the Kalen family uncharacteristically refrained from confronting Sharon further.
