Chapter 1092
What a vicious ploy.
Sharon felt her body temperature climbing, a wash of heat that had nothing to do with the room.
Miles watched the flush color her cheeks and gulped. A beauty like Sharon–no matter the cost–was a prize worth taking. Even without any exchange of favor, one night with her would be an irresistible gain.
He rubbed his palms together and moved closer, his expression eager. Although he’d already taken the antidote himself earlier, his excitement now outstripped any chemical high.
He waved the female secretary away. “You can step outside.” He had no taste for an audience.
The secretary set the tiny camera and hurried from the room. The moment the door clicked shut behind her, a dull thud echoed through the closed space.
Sharon had been drugged and fallen into Miles’s hands; it seemed grim.
Julliard, who’d been keeping an ear on the room’s goings–on, had watched Rick leave and then a woman step out, and his brow had tightened. What was Sharon doing in there?
Julliard had arrived later; he didn’t know of Miles’s plot and had no idea Sharon had been set up. Yet seeing Rick and a stranger leave one after another didn’t feel right. He walked to the door and rapped lightly. “Sharon, are you in there?”
No answer.
The room seemed well soundproofed; nothing came through.
He pressed the doorbell. DING–DONG.
He rang for a long time, but still–no response.
Julliard’s face darkened. He’d seen her enter that room. She had to be inside. But after knocking and ringing for so long, no one answered. Panic spiked through him. Something had happened to her.
He pounded harder. “Sharon, are you in there? If you don’t speak up, I’m coming through!”
A few tense seconds later, the door opened. Julliard’s taut muscles relaxed when he saw who stood there.” Sharon… are you all right?”
“I’m fine…” she managed.
But even as she answered, her steps faltered and she nearly collapsed, Julliard was quick; he steadied her with one arm. “Sharon, what happened?”
Her expression had gone serious. “Get me out of here first,” she said.
Seeing that she was unsteady, he guided her to an empty lounge and eased her down onto a sofa.
“Tell me exactly what happened,” he urged.
