Sharon said, “My feud with Jamie is irreconcilable. One day, it will end with only one of us standing. Silas and Jamie will inevitably try to trip me up sooner or later. The only reason they haven’t acted yet is because the timing isn’t right. Instead of waiting to be attacked, I’d rather strike first. This is, in fact, the perfect opportunity.

“As for the losses… If Jamie and Silas ever get their chance, I’ll suffer losses anyway. The outcome would be the same. So why not seize this chance to take control–and teach them both a lesson?”

When she finished, Carter’s gaze on her had changed.

“What is it?” she asked. “Did I overlook something? Is there a flaw in the plan?”

These days, Sharon genuinely listened to others‘ opinions. Even when it came to Enzo’s suggestions, she took them seriously. She understood that as a newcomer, she had to have a beginner’s humility, not overreach.

Carter replied, “No. You’ve covered everything. There’s nothing wrong with your reasoning–and you’ve improved astonishingly fast.”

It had only been a few months since Sharon returned to the Kalen family, yet her strategic thinking now carried the spark of natural talent. Even with advisors guiding her, no one could teach her insight. Unless she grasped it herself, no strategist–no matter how brilliant–could help her.

Carter said, “Sharon, I underestimated you before.”

Sharon smiled faintly. “Let’s not dwell on that. Tell me, what exactly went wrong with Julliard’s company?”

At the mention of Julliard, Carter’s eyes darkened. “When the trouble first began, I called Julliard and offered help. He turned me down–said he could handle it himself.”

Sudden corporate crises weren’t uncommon. Being targeted, framed, or caught in a scheme—these things happened in their world. Unless the situation was truly dire, neither Carter nor Julliard would reach out for help. 1

At first, Carter believed Julliard had things under control and didn’t interfere. But when the matter began to spiral beyond recovery, he offered help again–only to be refused once more. That wasn’t like Julliard at all.

Carter’s tone darkened. “Based on what I’ve seen, he’s most likely fallen into a trap Jamie laid specifically for him. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be this powerless.”
