Marguerite’s account was new, and her contact list was short. The only people she messaged regularly were Theobald, Anna, and Aaron.
It wasn’t time to add Simon yet. His international concert tour was still underway, and he wouldn’t be back for a while. She could already picture the drama: the resident crybaby would be devastated to find out she’d been back for so long without contacting him. And if she told him, he would drop everything and fly home in a heartbeat, and not even a herd of wild horses could stop him. A concert wasn't just his own endeavor; it involved countless staff and the expectations of his fans. He was already a controversial, love-him-or-hate-him superstar, so after careful consideration, Marguerite decided to wait until his tour was over.
She could, of course, fly to see him, but she had a crippling fear of flying ever since her parents died in a plane crash. Sometimes, she felt like such a coward—afraid to fly, and now, even afraid to drive.
She often saw Simon on TikTok, a silver-haired renegade, magnetic on stage. Fans would comment things like, So cool! He’s so hot my nose is bleeding. None of them knew that he had been the biggest crybaby as a child, his tears always on a hair trigger.
All that to say, her active chats were limited to three people.
Well, four, if you counted George. But she had never received a message he initiated. It was always her, texting him to open the gate when she arrived at the villa.
Now, seeing his name at the top of her chat list, her eyes sparkled with curiosity.
Her first thought was that Theobald had asked him for another favor. But she quickly dismissed it. Theobald wouldn’t dare go against her explicit wishes again. Besides, he hadn’t mentioned being busy tonight.
So… George was offering to help on his own?
She had to admit, he was incredibly kind. People who dedicated their lives to charity really were different.
After a moment, her slender fingers tapped out a reply: That’s so nice of you, but you don’t have to! Theobald is giving me a ride.
Aaron’s brain felt like it was short-circuiting from staring at the practice test. He had missed so much school over the past three years that some of the questions were completely foreign to him. He glanced over at Marguerite and saw her holding her phone, a slight smile playing on her lips, making her look absolutely radiant.
Aaron frowned. Who was she texting that made her so happy?
Aaron quickly erased his drawing, but his eyes darted to her phone, which was still lit up. He saw the name at the top of the chat: George.
He let out a quiet sigh of relief. He’d been worried it was that jerk, Joshua. Just scaring himself for no reason.
So, George was offering to pick Marguerite up? This could be his chance to finally apologize.
“Maggie, is Mr. Spencer coming to get you?” Aaron asked.
Marguerite shot him a glare. “You little sneak! No wonder you drew a mountain. You were spying on my chat!”
