The manager’s office was spacious, but the air suddenly felt thin.
Theobald could barely breathe. He stared in shock at the girl pulling his ear.-
She was stunningly beautiful, with almond-shaped eyes that were rounder at the corners and sparkled when she smiled. But when she was angry, those eyes looked like they could shoot fire. Every time he saw that look, a primal fear kicked in.
Like right now.
But the shock overwhelmed the fear. He couldn't believe what was happening.
Mr. Wood was also struggling for air, his eyes bulging like saucers.
The nerve of this woman!
How dare she pull the CEO’s ear!
Who did she think she was?
“Let go of our CEO!” Mr. Wood shouted, reaching out to yank Marguerite away.
But his hand was caught mid-air, and an ice-cold voice commanded from above, “Get out.”
Mr. Wood looked up in disbelief, pointing at himself. “Get out? Me?”
Anna nearly burst out laughing. She grabbed his arm and pulled him toward the door. “Who else? Let’s go!”
She knew the CEO needed to speak with this girl alone. If she wasn't mistaken, this was Theobald’s sister, Marguerite.
Anna had started as an intern at Starlight Group during her junior year of college, working her way up from a basic assistant to his highly capable executive assistant over the past four years. Once, when the CEO had too much to drink, she’d driven him home. He had pointed to a photo on his nightstand, his eyes red-rimmed. “This is my sister, Marguerite,” he’d said. “Isn’t she beautiful? She died a long time ago.”
So, yes, the current situation was bizarre, but she knew better than to ask questions.
The security guard, who had just caught up, panting, was stunned.
Why was the manager being kicked out?
This was chaos!
The office door clicked shut, and the sharp pain in his ear brought Theobald back to reality.
His eyes reddened, and his voice cracked. “Marguerite?”
His sister, who had been dead for eleven years, had suddenly appeared before him.
Was this real?
Her voice on the phone had sounded familiar, but he hadn't let himself consider the possibility. No one would believe that someone who died eleven years ago could come back to life.
He stood, walked to the door, and opened it to face Mr. Wood. “Cancel the lockdown. Resume normal business hours.”
Before Mr. Wood could even register the look on Theobald's face, the door was shut again.
He blinked, turning to Anna. “Anna, did it look like Mr. Scott’s eyes were red just now?”
Anna’s expression was serious. “You saw wrong. Hurry up and notify everyone to stop the clearing.”
Mr. Wood was utterly confused about the girl’s relationship with the CEO, but he quickly sent out a notice in the group chat and used his walkie-talkie to inform all security personnel.
“Marguerite, are you saying you time-traveled from eleven years ago?” Theobald asked in astonishment, still fanning her. The black rosary beads on his slender, strong wrist swayed with the motion.
Marguerite figured it was a hard thing to hide. Eleven years had passed, yet she looked exactly as she had the day she died. She had to tell him the truth.
“Yes. Haven’t you noticed I’m wearing the same clothes from that day?”
Theobald’s gaze fell, and his eyes dimmed. “Yeah. This is what you wore for your date with Joshua.”
He would never forget that day.
She had tried on countless dresses, asking him which one looked best. He couldn’t stand the thought of her dating and had mumbled, “None of them look good.”
